I would say you could even bump it to up to say 50 items... something like that shouldnt effect the merchants too much. Though the question remains in why not just up limits on auctions in the general bazaar that way if people want to sell things for more than 6k they have the ability to do this with the auction.

Because then everyone would just use the bazarrsince you can check any 'zar terminal from any other one.

I don't think the common person needs to be able to sell things. How many people are going to be going to random houses looking for small vendors? Finding all these small vendors would be a pain. The bizarre is there for small low vaule loot and it works fine.
I fully support the idea of a mailbox for people to be able to offer goods to others, and receive deliveries. I do not think people should be able to have things up for sale on a mailbox.

I don't like the idea of everyone getting a vendor.
Well...you can get a vendor in no time flat just by grinding out business 3. A vendor will cost you. It will cost you skill points.
Do I think everyone should have 25 times 50 items of storage? Well....NO!! We need to get rid of some of this excessively packratted stuff in the game. Let's be kind to the devs' database and "JUST SAY NO" to the proposal of a vendor for everyone.

I'd be fine with a low limit vendor for all, with some catches...
1) They could only have 1, capped at nothing more than 100 items, although I think 50 is more appropriate.
2) Monetary cap on items for those freebie vendors. This prevents people from using them as storage, instead of actually providing a service to others, as that defeats the whole purpose. They can't have both. If they want to be able to have vendors as storage, they have to invest in the skills to get ones with no monetary limit.
3)If you decide to work up Business for more, once you train in Business 3, you cannot place other vendors until you remove the freebie. Once you remove it, you cannot make the freebie again unless you drop Business 3, you can only make and use the 2 you are alloted for that skill box. This prevents people from using the freebie vendor as a "workaround" to get more vendors than they should at Business 3.
4) The rules still apply. If your freebie vendor is empty for 2 weeks, it poofs.
5) Freebie vendor maintanence should be at least double the amount it is for a regular artisan vendor(such as Bus 3).

OR if they WOULD come up with something like that, it's 25 item PERIOD.. Not 25 bags with 50 items. Or of course 25 singles, to tell the truth, dont think factory crates should be allowed either. You can have 25 SINGLE, UNCRATED items.. NO bags that have anything in them can go up. You can sell EMPTY packs, but not full ones.. 25 would be a max number of items I'd like to see a non 0030 artisan have. MAYBE not that many. Make it so it's actually worth it to have the merchant skills (like they are aiming for now). You could make it a bulky vendor, or some new style one that you would know it was a 'free' vendor. Make it craftable by a DE or an Artisan or Architect or something.. OR, here ya go, let a master merchant make it
. There we go.. Let MM's craft ONE item.. Oh yea, it would take power and maint to run too btw.

I was wondering what Merchants (and everyone else) thought of the idea of letting everyone have a vendor, just for existing. It would have a very small limit of something on the order of 25 items, but would let everyone sell a small amount, and have a place for others to make offers when they are offline.
It would be somewhere for dabblers to put items, but would not in any serious way threaten a real merchant. (Are you going to rely on a Weaponsmith who can offer 25 items max to have something you need?)
It would allow everyone to have the equivalent of a mailbox. If there was a need to further limit it, you
could have the limit tie in with the bazaar limit. Have 25 between them; bazaar allows galaxywide search, but 6K limit. Personal Vendor allows unlimited pricing, but customers have to find it somehow.
This seems, to me, to be fairly balanced. In the same way that anyone can have two pets (or is it three?) even if they are not a Creature Handler, but the pets are limited to level 10 or less, this seems a similar method to allow everyone a taste of Merchant, but also at a very weak level.
Plus, it means all those folks who kept a vendor after giving up Merchant because they like the utility (um...like me...) have no leg to stand on to complain.
Comments?

I like the idea.
I would stick with your 25 items limit and tie it to bazaar limits. Its not really a shop as such, but more a means for a "buy it now" option for loot auctioneers and a place to drop off auction winnings etc.
Also Ithink the non-skill vendor should not be able to sell bags with items in, if you want to sell packaged items legitemately then get artisan --3-. However I think factory crates should be fine, the only reason to exclude bags is to avoid the vendor being abused as storage.

I dont agree with the free vendor idea but maybe have novice artisan have 1 vendor and go on from there in stead of business 3 or what have you. Or for the docs have a medical vendor or distributor be available at organic chem 4 that would sell Meds and crates of meds.
Oh well Im tired so Im not making sense to myself anymore

The bag limit is a good point. I'm curious if, when vendor limits go into effect, if a bag with 50 items in it will count as 51 things. At the moment, as there are no limits at all, it doesn't really make a difference how it is counted. When limits go in... I expect to see lots of merchants devote 100 or so slots to being a U-Stor-It using bags if there is no "fix" to them.
Definitely though, on the freebie vendor I am suggesting, bags with stuff in them would be a no-no. The idea was to have a mailbox of sorts, as well as a begin able to make a limited number of sales without the bazaar 6K price limit. Basically, a taste of merchant. In the same way that you can get a taste of CH without actually doing it, but you are very crippled in how useful your pets are until you actually become a CH, this would be a way to get a very crippled vendor. Tieing the number of sales on this with the limit on the bazaar definitely seems more and more like a good idea. 25 items between it, the bazaar, and current offers. I'd say that definitely keeps it from being a threat to any actual merchants...
As for the point that finding these proposed small vendors would be a pain...that's intentional. If they ever do put in a vendor-network equivalent to the bazaar search where you can search all vendors, these free guys shouldn't be on it. (Indeed, listing on something like that should probably be a mid-level merchant skill).

If they gave the vendor a 0 item limit, we would get a drop point, and the devs would even have to code everything.
Vendor +1 and no Item +, for all players. And voila, dropboxes for all.
No code changes needed.
