How do you equate merchant tents poofing when you no longer have the skill to own one to architects who make stuff for other people to own? Not the same.
They won't poof and no one has ever asked for that. I do think they should cost a LOT more to maintain if you don't have the skill required to keep them.
Make sure you are in the building then target the other player and type that.
You have to have Effiency 4 to recieve a Merchant Tent in this fashion.

Yea exact same thing with hospitals and cantinas. If the player you are transferring something to doesn't have the skills to place it themselves, the transfer won't work. I'm kind of amazed the devs thought about that.
I don't Equate it SOE does ATM. If a master Dancer puts down a cantina and then drops the skill of entertainer the building wont poof either. Player cities are bugged to hell and hard to set up as it is pulling down tents might happen but as you can see the tent owner might not be the one hurt by it the tru merchants inside it will be.

I was confused by your use of the profession of Architect. If you had said Politican or Mayor specifically I would agree that there are some parallells. You can't stop the owner of the house from not paying the maintenance which will have the same effect. So one should be careful who they trust to house their vendors. My point was that no one has asked for the tents to be summarily removed if the skill is dropped. The only thing that has been suggested is that the maintenance go up a LOT to make it very undesirble to own one without the skill. That suggestion hasn't been implemented or even commented on by the devs.

I have architect on the brain at the moment. My former Mayor left the game and my new Mayor (also a merchant) are struggling with keeping the town intact. We have a few tents in prime locations that the owner has left the game and are struggling with this alot right now.
The better example would have been our cantina where the dancer who placed it is gone now we have a current string of entertainers who would love to palce a new cantina but the old one is in the prime spot. /sigh
In the case of our tents I got control of the mayors owned tents (he had multiple accounts and one was a merchant). The problem I had was with one tent that the person had dropped the skills for before she quit the game. This tent is still there and is kinda in limbo. Empty Vendors and an old disply that no longer is used.
Oh well long winded post. I kinda would like the tent to poof and I think it will poof from zero maint at some point. It would have been nice if in this case the thing would just go away but there are much bigger issues to deal with. (Like the 6 empty vendors in my tents from folks who are gone)
