No, it's only real benefitsare that it's got a small footprint and takes one lot. It's also visually identifiable as being something that a merchant would have.

The real benefit of the merchant tent is that it is supposed to be a visual advertisement that there should be a vendor inside. One that is suppopsed to be owned by a merchant of considerable skill (as it takes Effiency IV to take ownership of one). The fact that you can surrender the skills after you've taken ownershp blunts that a bit and I get a little upset to go into one that has no vendor. The point of the tent is to draw visitors to your vendor..it doesn't work if half of them aren't owned by merchants any more. One day I hope they fix this as it should be an effective tool for bringing in customers.

I am in hopes that the changes to the global map will return the power to Advertising III. Travelling halfway across a planet to see an empty vendor is no fun.

Doc if there's a chance in hell, it would be nice to have Merchant Tents advertise on the overhead map like hospitals, cantinas, and theaters.

Considering the efficiency tree will now get you extra vendors, as far as I see, it will be best to go that tree first than the additional management tree, as if you're at efficiency 4 it secures your tent (should they fix that), and also gives you 20% discount on your houses/factories/harvesters etc, so there should now be more tents owned by merchants, although personally I reckon Novice Merchant should get to place the tents, as a Novice Merchant is still a Merchant, and may decide that only want to have 4 0 4 4 of Merchant, which restricts them from having a tent, and they're more Merchant than someone who is 0 4 0 0.

As for the changes, mainly with the item caps, I reckon finding empty vendors now will be more of increase. Going to a vendor on the planetary map, and finding it empty will be decreased, but people will now only be able to sell limited stock, and may not have in stock what you want. I hardly used the planetary map to find stuff I wanted, but when I did, they were in stock, I mainly just asked around which was the best vendor, no planetary map can tell you which player/vendor sells the best of that kind or what the prices of the items are. Now with these changes, all my favourite locations of where I used to buy stuff from, will probably be out of stock of what I want when I get there. So those vendors that were always in stock of everything at the moment, will not be when the changes happen.

You're out of time, SOE The whole 2.5 months shouldn't have been. The game was fine up until Nov 15th. If the CU was worked on, instead of devoting time to the NGE (including the many months prior to November), the game could possibly be totally bug free by now.

My account cancels on 2nd Feb, which was a waste as only played game for 1 day to get the life day gifts, will be resubbing when creature handler, Bio-engineer, scout, and ranger return, oh and the FS village.

Posted that before reading the new changes, so if people want vendors then the efficiency line may not be the one to go for first, as that line would give you 5 less vendors, but for those not getting into merchant fully, 4 vendors should suffice.

Also now there is no cap of how many items to get on a vendor then that will also reduce the chances of the stock running out on a particular vendor, so therefore finding empty vendors or vendors without stock you're after should be greatly reduced too.
