Right now I'm practically selling nothing from my vendor - the small amounts of money I do make tend to come from the bazaar, and I always email people who buy my items and tell them about my vendor. Whenever I'm in town I /shout an ad. Any suggestions as to how to get more customers?

Email, post on server forums about it etc..........word of mouth goes a LONG way.

Standing on a busy street for an hour shouting out an advertisment works amazingly well..and I havn't been dueled once over it!
Seriously I made up a little sales pitch, stood in the town square and shouted my little ad with the location and everything. I got lots of /tells with questions and several sales from people who just heard me and decided to see what a player vendor was all about. One guy went crazy playing with the offer screen but I bought everysingle item (and made a profit reselling several items) because I wanted him to remember his experience. He did me sent me a /tell later about how great he thought the player vendor was and agreed to tell all his friends to visit me.
I am starting to get regular customers now, people I see in the shop almost every day browsing to see what is available. They /tell me when they are looking for something to see if I can find it. If I have a contact that I buy from I try to get the item, if I don't I refer the player to someone I have heard of that might have that item. I think that building a relationship with the players in the game around your shop is vital.
I send emails to everyone who buys from me in the bazaar and I try to keep nearly my limit of items in the bazaar to keep a method for reaching my customer base. I sell items there slightly higher and of course don't sell anything there that is valued over 3k.
I am sure there are all sorts of other ways. I thought about paying someone to adbark for me and giving them credits based on the number of people who bought from me and then told me they were referred by the barker. My RL wife plays music in the tavern..everytime she hears someone talking about needing this or that she either tells them to go to the shop or sends me a tell to contact them and get more details about what they are looking for.
Networking is, I believe, at the heart of it.
Sheesh a book can you tell they are rebooting servers and stuff??
