Thread: Which skill to choose first?

Heya, I'm a Novice Merchant and am about able to get my first Merchant skill, however, I have no idea which one I will benefit from the most. I am in a Guild, and I'm working towards weaponsmith, however, I'm only at Engineering 3. Will one skill greatly benefit me greater than the other? I have two vendors at the moment, and really don't have a need for another one. New choices of Vendors would be really nice, but that won't help my XP at all, will it? And with as long as it's taking me to get XP, I don't know if I want to start down the Reduced Fees Tree, or is I want to tackle the Advertising Tree. Any input or a point in the right direction would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I can train you in merchant stuff. Nothing will really help you at level 1 boxes. Ad or hire for looks are best bet if 2 vendors is enough for you. I personally did vendors since volume of sales = more xp and more vendors = more sales.

Heya. That would be most appreciated. I'll Probably pick up Hiring I first. I'll try to catch you in game.

Thanks,

I went up the Advertising tree first so I could get my vendor listed on the Planetary Map, and so I could get that nifty Propogandist title over my head

does the planetary map feature work? I thought I read further down that it wasn't quite working yet and I was deciding that advertising wasn't worth it right away because of it.

Apparently the planetary map thing in advertising 3 works, but advertising 2 is broken.

POKEY THE PENGUIN SIG REMOVED BY GARVA BECAUSE "Just because you are crafty enough to get around the technicality of it being a .jpg or .gif does not mean it is not an image, it is not ascii art, it is an image" SO HERE IS MY NEW SIG.

Remember that you get more merchant XP the more vendors you have. It may be to your advantage to get one or two levels of Management, hire additional vendors (even if you keep them empty), and then work on getting the rest of the tree with your newly increased xp flow.

I'm working toward a specific goal (Advertising III, since I'm part of a player run town and we want to be on the map) and figured that I would get there faster if I tookthe first tier of Managementthen did the Advertising branch, than if I just went straight to Advertising.

Hiring looks like a neato skill as well, but I think Efficiency is the last thing I'll get. Getting my bazaar fees reduced by 4 credits doesn't exactly inspire me to spend all that xp and 6K for training.

I thought sale didnt affect xp, just numbers ie you get certain xp per vendor per hour. I never see an immediate increase in xp when sales take place so I would be interested in knowing how it is tied to sales. I do know that my xp is growing faster with 2 vendors than with 1, and I just added a 3rd.

I would suggest grabbing management I first, unless someone has a definitive answer on how merchant xp is generated and it does not depend on number of vendors.

On tatooine/eclipse it seems to be working. I can see JTech when I click on vendors.

I picked up the one that gives another vendor. Hiring? Now I am going to make a run for advertising. Once I can put myself on the map, I will open the store.

I tested the Selling XP thing with a friend of mine. We both put items up for 1 cr a piece, and bought out like 20 at a time, and got I think 300 XP after numeroius trips back and forth, buying, offering, ect. But, I put something up for 14000 credits and he bought it, then offered it and I bought it back, or something like that, and I got a reasonable larger amount of XP.
