I'm sure I read somewhere a few ago that it was possible to transfer items from one vendor to another in a remote location without having to visit both. Can someone who has Merchant skills please confirm whether this is the case?

I haven't seen it. Also, I once used the common stock in the samearea to transfer items from one vendor to another, and when I deleted the first one everything disappeared, then reappeared but it was not retrievable, and it finally disappeared (250 items or so). So I would do it the most annoying way.
