Well, considering droping merchant all together soon.

Advertising doesnt work well enuff, and let's face it, planetary map didn't get more people in my store. I get people in with message boards and mouth-to-ears, my % profit didn't move with the add line.

Business line was creates by a fearie in a fantasy world. Bazaar fees reduces your fees from 20 to 16. 4 credits. When you can run 2 survey missions in 3 minutes and score 3600 credits, how is a 4 credit reduction good????

Hiring is fluff. Should be an image designer and droid engeneer ability.

Managment... well, i don't need over 2 merchant with the curent state of the profession.

Problem is:

marksman skilling up = better marksman

Healer skilling up = better healer

Merchant skilling up = more fees? Anyone actualy did better business with these skills?

Question is: what is a merchant, what does he do?

A merchant should be specialised in gathering ressources, either brute or end product, and sell them. A good merchant travels around in business class, deals with people, and MAKES LIFE EASIER FOR CRAFTERS. A crafter should find it worth it to deal with a vendor. For that, the merchant should make profits, and have better advertising.

So, THIS is how i'd make merchant (total overhaul of the 4 lines, introducing 4 new lines):

-----------------------------------------------------

Novice Merchant:

- ReducesMaintenance Fees

- Vendors +1

- Lots +1

- Increased Bazaar cap to 3300

- Business card +1 (a business cards is a message you design in your datapad. It can be sent, or attached to any sale in the desciption area. Makes is easier to describe your wares).

Skill line 1: Structure Management

Box 1:

- increases building item capacity

Box 2:

- Lot +1

- House banner/flag

Box 3:

- Increased house capacity

- Area of safety (creates an area of safety around the shop where mobs can't spawn. No more Tusken Raider parties on you door steps)

Box 4:

- Lot +1

- Certificat for Harvester Remote Control Device (crafted by DE, allows status report, maintenance fees payment and ressources changes from a distance. You still have to restock power and empty hoppers in person).

Skill line 2: Business Privileges

Box 1:

- Reduced maintenance fees

Box 2:

- Reduced maintenance fees

- Reduced Travel fees

- Vendor management list activated (finally, you can give management privilege to associate)

Box 3:

- Reduced maintenance fees

- Increased Bazaar cap to 3600

- Merchant Shuttle Access (special shuttles that reach towns like Mos Taike....)

Box 4:

- Reduced maintenance fees

- Reduced Travel Fees

Skill line 3: Vendor Managment

(like currently, each box gives more vendor choices)

Box 1:

- vendor +1

- Certificat for Droid Vendor Remote Control (allows to change prices, or withdraw sale, or pay maintenance)

Box 2:

- vendor +1

- Slider bar: Ressources can be sold by unit, the buyer uses a slider bar to choose how much he wants, and he gets that.

Box 3:

- vendor +1

- Certificat for a Vendor Comm device: Allows communictaion with NPC vendor (see droid remote)

Box 4:

-vendor +1

- Certificat for a stock machine (one per building, will hold stock without taking space in house, for a maintenance fee, of course, but cheaper then vendors)

Skill line 4: Advertising

(first, a section on the Bazaar called advertising is created, where you can subscribe shops and place business cards)

Box 1:

- Bazaar ADV local (one town)

Box 2:

- Business card +1

Box 3:

- Bazaar ADV Planetary

Box 4:

- Business card +1

- Porch access (you can place a vendor on the outside porch)

MASTER MERCHANT

- Lot +1 (total +4)

- Reduced maintenance fees

- Increased Bazaar cap to 4000

- vendor +1 (total 7)

- NPC vendor can recharge themselves from stock machine using the remote comm unit

- business card +1 (total 4)

- Bazaar ADV Galaxy

So a master can have many stores, advertised across galaxies on every bazaar, with 4 displayed business cards, moves arounds easily for cheap, can control most vendors at a distance, even restock NPCs from stock room, , and can let a business partner restock themselves.

What do you think? That, in my eye, is a merchant.

A lot of good ideas, but every profession has a million reasons why they need more lots and nobody's going to get them. Just don't even bother because it's not going to happen.
