What do I have to do, what action, to attain merchant experience??

Place a vendor. You get 50 xp per vendor every 45 minutes.

Thanks alot for the info ... I placed a vendor and when I logged the next day I had 1000 exp in merchant and couldn't figure out what I did to get it!

Any time, though I have to wonder at your timing on becoming a merchant....sure you don't want to be a chef or something for a little bit?
