Thread: Need Merch Xp Help
Sorry to bother you all with this question, but I'm curious. I grinded my way up the business line of artisan, without placing a vendor. Once I finished with Busines 4, I immediately got a msg saying I could train Novice Merchant. I was expecting to need 5k more merch xp, but apparently, my character already had 10k stored up.
How is it possible that I had 10k merchant xp, without ever setting up a vendor or entrance fee? Are there other ways to get the xp?

Hope that last quote wasn't directed at me. As I wrote above, i grinded my way through the business line, which is grindable. I did not state I was going to grind through Merchant. I was merely trying to figure out where this magical xp came from. Every other type of xp i have, i am pretty sure I know where it came from. Knowing this fact can help everyone out, not just me. I mean, is it intended, is it a bug? Who knows.. A lot of stuff happens after major updates that aren't intended.

Don't mind him. Some people are jerks and feel that they have a need to fill other people's threads with useless remarks and their negativity.
I, and I'm sure many other merchants, would find your information exciting - which is why I'm surprised by the lack of response to this thread.
Obviously, the key issue here is to figure out where that merchant xp magically appeared from.
What we know we get xp from:
1. Vendors
2. Vendor viewings
3. Access Fees
But, you got xp without doing "the three". Now I didn't get any xp grinding through business 1-4, so maybe the key is the difference between what we did?
I did straight grinding. I made a whole bunch of weapon grips in practice mode, to get through business fast... and I got no merchant xp.
So here's what I'm wondering (some may seem irrelavent):
1. Did you grind anything in particular?
2. Did you sell your items on the bazaar?
2a. If so, were they sold via auction or instant sale?
3. Did you sell your items to someone who sold them in a vendor?
That's about all I can think of off the top of my head, but maybe it'll get us pointed in the right direction...

Spyder, what items did you craft/grind whilest moving up the business line, what exactly did you do?
That's the only real clue we'll have to figuring out where you got your magic 10k MXP.
Let us know soon! I'm dying to know and with vendors not giving MXP every hour like it should...
Didn't you use to get merchant XP when selling stuff on bazaar at launch.. ? If so, maybe that's where you got it from

I did a reg sale and a premium sale and neither granted any xp... so... I have no idea! lol

- I grinded generic crafting tools until Engineering 1, then Structure crafting tools for the rest of business 1-4.
2. Did you sell your items on the bazaar?
- I haven't sold anything on the bazaar in a long time, but I used to sell fusion power via instant sale.
3. Did you sell your items to someone who sold them in a vendor?
- Not sure. I never followed up on the buyers. but a few buyers were known crafters on Starsider.

Before the latest patch I seemed to get about 150 Merchant XP every X minutes (don't know how long it was exactly, but it was like clockwork) just by having 2 vendors in my house.
Now I'm lucky to get 500 per day. I hope that's a bug because it'd take years to get to Master Merchant at this rate. Don't laugh, yes I really do want to get to Master Merchant. And no, I'm not a masochist.
Hey man...we ALL want to get to master merchant.
I unfortunately *cry* had to give up all my BH skills today to go full-time Merchant.
Im having fun with it though. Gonna take up pistoleer and smuggler to try and keep myself alive in combat hehe.
