no, and probably never. and be fair warned, you are lible to get hung for even suggesting it .... i learned that real quick on my first experience in the merchant community lol.
of course, after hearing all of the complaints against it, i understood why they dont want admin right. but i do agree that there needs to be a way to sell directly to one specific person, faction, guild ... maybecreate"vendor access" and vendor ban" functions similar to structure admin and ban.

Many times asked for, many times rejected. Where is the sense in making cross server trades even more useful? That would be the consequence if what you ask for would be implemented. Nothing I and most other would want to happen.

Forgive me, but I have not seen all the arguments against this. To me it seems an okay idea. It will at least give Merchant more functions. Perhaps Merchants could have 12 vendors/4000 items of their own (as at present) then the ability to place vendors for other crafters in their malls, perhaps an extra 20 vendors on top of their own vendor limit of 12. The placed vendors would have an additional radial menu option, namely Pay Merchant, which the crafter who rents the vendor has to pay the same as maintenance to keep their vendor going.
How would this encourage cross server trading? Or am I missing something blindingly obvious.

You're missing something blindingly obvious. If I set up a vendor for you and I have no day to day responsibilty for it then I have just become a mule. I am not really necessary in the equation at all. One crafter can take merchant and without expending any time at all on his own supply vendors to 20 people. This makes the merchant profession less than it is. I can no longer make a living selling my services because everyone has them for free. This would be like asking the doctor community to give admin rights on buffpacks. They won't like that because they wouldn't make the money any more if I could go and buy my packs from the same place they buy theirs and use them myself. The profession is a service profession. Remove the service aspect and you have a vendor crafter which is not at all what the profession was designed to do.

Thanks for the explanation Doc, I see what you mean. It's just that at the moment to my mind Merchant seems to be little more than a crafter add-on..

It can be that but it is an important addon. And doing the merchant sales yourself is only one option. My vision for merchant was always that we would have the tools and the incentive to buy merchandise from crafters and resell it. Right now that only works if you really trust the other person and if you have a lot of time and patience. But maybe one day it will be better.

currently, there have been several discussions concerning vendor consignment sales, which is a really cool idea and I think would add a lot of promise to the merchant profession. basically the theory is that the merchant would still be the one in charge of the vendors, but could give consignment right to certain ppl (they could offer an item and list it as a consignment sale) where the merchant would receive a portion or percentage of the sell, or they could make a purely consigned vendor, where any offered item could be consigned ect. there is a lot more to the idea than this, but this is basically what its about ... finding a way to incorporate merchants as a middle man without experienceing as much risk on both parts as it is now. using a merchant middle man currently required either the merchant fronting all the money for the product and hoping that it sells for more than they paid, or the client trusting that the merchant will reimburse them as the sales are made. using a consignment system would still allow the merchant to sell the clients wares, but will totally eliminate the risk factor. of course there would also have to be safe guards where vendors with consignment sales could not be removed until the sales room, stock room, and offers rooms are all empty to aviod griefing.

And why would it enhance cross server trade even more? Very easy:
I play on server A and would like to sell my goods but I have no interest in spending skill points to the merchant profession. Furthermore I could need 10 more lots.
Another player on server B has the same wishes/problems.
I create a toon on server B, the other creates one on server A. Both learn master merchant with the extra toon on the server they normally not play on and set up the vendors for each other. Voila, 10 more lots and a free master merchant at once.
That is really what you want?
