Hi...I am about to master artisan and am going to go into the merchant profession. I have read quite a few threads on getting merchant xp, but could someone tell me what they think the best way is? For example, charging an access fee, or just constantly having vendors up??
Thanks

Always keep as many vendors in the world as you can have.
Keep their maintenance paid. Vendors with 0 maintenance generate significantly less xp.

XP is given out hourly and the amount of that XP is driven on how many vendors you have up. This XP is gained even when you are not logged on. The catch is it doesn't seem to register until your vendors are generated i.e. go into your house and make sure they appear.
Charging an access fee is also a good way. Just be sure if you are going to do this you actually have stuff on there to sell, otherwise you jst make your customers angry.
Go up the vendor tree all the way first. That way you can place the most vendors at a single time and you will be able to fly through the rest of the profession. If you are in a guild...send out an e-mail asking them to stop by and activate your vendors and pay the 1 credit access fee. You'll be a Master in about 1 week.

get a friend to run a macro (or any character that doesnt own the vendor). they can stand in front of your vendor and keep viewing it every 10 minutes. also drop a vendor every hour, then destroy it.
here is an AFK browsing macro to gain Merchant
Macro name MerchantXP
/ui action vendorUse;
/pause 5;
/ui action defaultButton;
/pause 600;
/sit;
/pause 5;
/stand;
/pause 5;
/macro MerchantXP

You only get Merchant xp from:
- Vendors in the world per hour. (150xp with maintenance, 50xp without)
- Vendor views per player per 10 minutes. (50xp)
- Access fees per player per 10 minutes (and only to the owner). (50xp I think)

hope this helps. im grinding merchant too and it is sloooooow. im only 0300 right now.

Why drop a vendor every hour and destroy it?
I've modified my macro slightly to make it slightly less "bouncy"
/ui action vendorUse;
/pause 60;
/ui action defaultButton;
/pause 60;
/mood none;
/macro VendorXP;
If you've got a friend that can park themselves on one of your vendors while they're away for most of the day, that'll get you quite a bit of xp.
It's much less trouble than the access fee thing.

*cough*
Or you could set down the vendors you can, pay them, fill them, let them sell, encourageing friends to stop by if they are in area for a poke or two, and wait for the XP...

Now who wants to take their time grinding out Merchant and do it the way it was intended to be done? Oh yeah, me! Thats the way I did it. Grinded out Architect and Merchant at the same time. While slowly stocking my vendors and all the time getting more to place. The whole process took 2.5 weeks to master.
Don't knock the access fee, it worked for me.

A-yup me too, I became Master Merch ages ago..long before the whispering of Jedi
in a time where vendors were stocked with all loots (clothes and cdefs galore)
and special items were tenetivly priced because we knew noone had that many credits..
