Thread: First Visit along with a Skill Point Question

Hi all. Been a Master Merchant on TC-Prime for over a year now (catering to the needs of the constant testers and visitors), and this here's my first trip to this board
I just had a random though pop in my head and wanted to see if anyone else here agrees with it, or find out if I'm just out in left field about this. And if thishas beenbrought up before, sorry, search engine apparently wasn't playing nice with me. Anywho...in noticing that Image Designers got a reduction in skill points just so that Entertainers could master all 4 categories, it occurred to me, "Why don't they do this with Merchant too?" That way, crafters could master 4 professions if they wanted to instead of being gimped on the fourth. I've come to accept that Merchant is a support class to the crafters, so why not level the SPs required for it to match its job?
I know that Merchant has a few other issues to deal with, but maybe this can be put on the plate eventually as well.
Nice place you've got here, too. Don't move, you might get dropped to page 26 of the GVS.

Worth a shot, since the devs seem intent on crippling the profession.

Welcome to the merchant forums!
The idea of askill point reduction for merchanthasbeen discussed here in the past. Most people say merchant is a support profession for their crafter. I'm exactly the oppositeas I am a crafter to support my merchant profession. I love being a merchant and it's the primary reason I log on each day.
Does merchant need a skill point reduction? I don't think so.This would only cause it to be a less viable profession. It does need a seriousoverhaul though. SOE seems *$# bent on destroying it and completely ignores the merchant players. They've made most of the skill tree pointless by introducing the galactic bazaar and still haven't addressed bugs that have been there since day one.
Just my two cents...

Well we're re-discussing the idea of a sp reduction/elimination precisely because SOE seems fine with weakening the merchant profession. Since the trend is towards a lessviable profession why not reduce it sp-wise as well.

The dev's will never read these forums or listen to the players of the game (unless they are Jedi.) So what's the point in discussion. There have been great ideas throughout the forums on ways of fixing and improving professions but they are always ignored. Instead we get some dev designed and implemented featurethat causes more problems then fixes. Look at the galactic bazaar. It sounds good in theory, but without the proper item catagories, it's nothing but a major mess.Our opinions just don't matter. With that being said, if the dev's do give usa drop in skill points, I'll probably still be playing. I'm just a glutton for punishment.

My alt is a MM as well and I would love to see one of two things happen.
1.) Make MM worth the skill points by giving them something other than dumb tents. Allow them to have storage facilities for components. Allow them to have better management of vendors, etc. etc. etc.
or
2.) Make MM cost 0 skill points. If they're not going to fix it then please don't make me spend my skill points on it.
