The trade value of pride...

On Tuesday, I was in Bestine looking over the bazaar when one of two Bothans near by started to bark at me. I glanced over at her, and delivered a cold response asking her to cease, and if there was something I could do for her. The second Bothan spoke up and said something to the effect of, "Leave my wife alone," and also started barking at me. I told him that he might perhaps wish to control his wife better.

Simple event, but as they both appeared to be roleplayers, I did what any miffed and irritated Imperial Merchant would do when miffed and irritated by a couple of apparant Rebel curs, and placed a bounty on their heads within my guild.

Email to guild:

Slaves!

Two Bothans irritated me today in the Bestine market square. I believe they need a lesson in manners.

The names are: Male Bothan, and Female Bothan.

Mistress Kyphi Makarha

Email to guild, report of duel for the Mistress's honor:

Two Bothans by the names of 'Male Bothan' and 'Female Bothan' insulted Mistress Kyphi on the 6th of July, 2004. The subjects barked and growled at Mistress Kyphi without reason and continued to do so despite warnings to cease and requests to explain. They acted as brutes and were treated as such. Immediately following the event, a bounty was placed on the assailants' heads. A search ensued and the subject 'Male Bothan' was tracked to a remote location of Mos Eisley where he was doing business as a scout, presumabely. The Hunter, a certain 'Kitsune', allowed the prey to explain his actions, to which he barked at her as well. He explained that Mistress Kyphi had insulted his wife, the subject 'Female Bothan'. This accusation has not been verified and is to present treated as a lie. A honor duel was issued after an agreement to specific conditions. These conditions were (quoted): 'No DB', 'buy me (Male Bothan) a guild [hall]', and the loser shall be healed. The Hunter called upon a known contact in Mos Eisley, whom had aided her in tracking the Bothan, to pose as a doctor. After agreeing to trade after accepting the duel, so as to avoid having the Bothan leave before fighting, a challenge was re-issued. The prey accepted, was killed and given no explanation as such filth does not merit one. The Hunter never allowed for a trade, which is grounds for a reprimanding upon breaking the agreed-upon conditions. It was deemed that only one of the two subjects need be killed, as the death of one should serve to sufficiently warn the other. The Hunter captured an image of the dealings as proof of proper vengence. It is noted that neither the victim of the initial event, nor the Hunter verbally insulted the subjects.

- Report Submitted July 8th, 2004 by 'Kit'

As we were joking about this on the guild hall, shaking our heads over a brief moment of fun that we had, and how the Male Bothan pulled out the: 'I'm going to get you banned for this!' line, I received a page from said Bothan asking for a guild hall. The whole pretty please, I'm broke, can you help bit. Talk about short term memory. Being a business woman, and my honor intact after the duel, bygones were bygones. I told him I would be willing to accept items in trade, and he started offering me things like a doctor's dress, a small tatooine house, a painting of a mon calamari eye. I told him that I would put together a list of items he could go out and fetch, and trade for the guild hall. While I was writing it up, he kept paging me with, 'please can u give me a guild hall'. After the second one, I replied back with, "Impatience will get you nothing, good sir, please allow me to finish this email for you." Irritated once again, I decided to add in my own coup de grace to the situation.

To: Male Bothan

My guild halls sell for 325k. If you can bring me the following items valued at what I would pay for them to equal or excede my cost for a guild hall, I will trade it straight across for said items.

Thank you for doing business with Makarha's Estate.

And the rather quiet and disappointing end of the whole matter in a /telled conversation:

Male Bothan: what guild

Kyphi: Makarha's Estate.

Kyphi: -ME-

Male Bothan: they said crap about my wife

Kyphi: Funny, I don't recall saying anything to your wife. I was just standing there brousing the market when she barked at me for no reason.

Male Bothan: u want a force crystal for the guild hall

Male Bothan: i have a purple 1

Kyphi: I'll take 150k off the price for the crystal.

Male Bothan: how bout 1 force crystal ND 2 SRYS

Kyphi: ::bows her head:: That would be acceptable.

Kyphi: The appologies must come first, then we can open a trade window for the crystal/guild hall.

Male Bothan: my wife is not on

Kyphi: The letters must come first.

Male Bothan: kyphi forget it

Male Bothan: 1 of ur members wanted to duel me for honor

Male Bothan: i said no db and she dbed me

Kyphi: As you like. Have a pleasant day.

Male Bothan: ur guild lies

Kyphi: /addignore Male Bothan /setpermission ban Male Bothan

My only regret is the lost opportunity for role-play that could have continued from this incident.

If the other person had agreed to participate in the RP I'd say wow, nice RPing.

As it stands, though, sounds like your friendslied to some hapless newbie to have fun at his expense. If I were him I'd report the "Hunter" for griefing, fraud, harassment or all of the above.

Nice story, I guess.
