Thread: IDing Vendors

I noticed this listed with the merchant issues... however. Do we honestly think that IDers are going to be willing to trapse all over the planet to ID our vendors? Wouldn't it be more efficient if there were vendor customization kits crafted byIDers that would let us customize our own vendors? I wouldn't think it should give or require crafting xp for them to make these... but rather, work much in way Musicians craft instruments. When an Image Designer crafts a customization kit, it gives them ID xp. They could make them starting at Novice ID perhaps? and Have separate kits for separate customizations like... one for body shape, one for markings, one for hair, one for make-up, etc... getting the ability to craft each kit at different levels of ID. Just a thought... but I think that expecting an ID to run all over the place to customize someone else's vendor is much like the issue Architects are dealing with with colorizing furniture... and the general concensus over there is, NO.

The IDs have generally been resistant to the idea of becoming crafters - they're a social profession and (supposedly) enjoy the process of chatting with other players to find just the right "look".

Making house calls might be a bit much, though. What if merchants could bring vendors to the salons (i.e. before they're dropped)and have the work done there?

I actually thought of that before the customization kits, but it seems like it would be harder to implement. There are already similar kits for vehicles and a similar method of xp/crafting (musicians). For them to ID the vendor without kits and without coming to the vendor itself, one would have to either trade the vendor to the IDer and then they ID on the vendor in Item form (no precident). Or drop the vendor in the ID tent to be IDed and then pick it up again once the IDing was concluded. Actually, I would probably prefer the latter. I find it obnoxious anyway that vendors can't be picked up once they've been placed. They should be pick-upable and moveable like furniture in my opinion.

It would be nice if you could pick them up and reposition them (or even /movethem) before they've been initialized. I mean, it does say "vendor has been initialized and can no longer be moved" which implies to me that you should have been able to move it before you initialized it.

As for the ID issue, they could charge whatever they wanted to make house calls (which seems like social interaction to me), or at least the Devs should let us alter the vendors however we see fit when we create them. Even just the "player" races would be sufficient because obviously the code to do this is already in the game.

It's just absurd that a master merchant can't discriminate against potential employees based on how they look!

This should be easy enough - can't see it being too hard to set up a system where anyone with Novice Merchant (maybe higher?) could drop a vendor in a salon. You'd have to check that it was the actual owner picking the vendor up again, obviously, and you'd probably need to set a time limit of about 30 minutes so that salons didn't get completely cluttered up by some of our less mature compadres... but I suspect this is entirely do-able.

Mind you, some IDs might like to do the house-calls, perhaps making them an integral part of a corporate design service (come and ID your vendors, set up your storefront etc), so it wouldn't make sense to rule this out.

The ID's have requested this feature themselves..and I consulted with Kwee (the ID Correspondant) before putting it on the list. They like the idea. It gives them a job to do that isn't sitting in one place. They would come to you, modify your vendor for a fee..and continue on their way.

Seems like a win win for both Merchants and ID and the devs are on board with the concept they just can't implement it right away.

I was going to say.. I am both a Master Merchant and a Master ID and I would welcome the chance to do this for people. The problem is that alot of the ventors are NPC races and may not be able to be customized. But still even the PC based races would be cool to do, I can't tell you how many times I have had to delete aventor because it was tooold or tonasty looking. Idon't mind them heavy. I think it brings a level ofrealism to the game (sofew makeover weight or old characters ) but when you are going to sell clothes and put a fleshrap on a 90+300lb Bothan You will getfew if any clients.

As for moving them before youinitialize them. I agree. I know you can rotate them even after they have been set in place but I would like to move them a bit before you lock them in place.. I also wish I could pick them up again Or Un-initialize them so as to not loose the ventors all together if I want to relocate my shops.I
