Same system, same database, samenerf. How many times have you seen 1 unit of hide for 6000 credits? Have you ever done a galaxy wide search on Misc items and actually reached the end of the list? Personal feeling, that's where the wasted vendor space is being used up. The database should have been planned out in advance, you knew how many players you wanted (not there anymore) you made it so they could list 25 items (how many do, 25% on the high side?) do the math. SOE should have planned in advance and made this infamous database (which is sql by the way, sounds more like access) scaleable. They have the money (ours) to increase the potential and enjoy ability (ours) of this game yet it gets used in making an expansion for an already broken game (not going to even start on that) instead of recoding and retooling existing equipment and data storage. The database may be astronomically huge at this point but it's still an almost flat table. You don’t (or shouldn’t) have homes with 150-250 max items in various positions/places/colors to deal with on top of general building positioning and a handful of other things to worry about. It's a sad state when something that should have been looked at in a proactive manner has been decayed to the state they SAY it is in. I personally don’t believe it's as bad as they say; more then likely they are getting ready for a server merge. Oh wait that email went out months ago stating that very thing was going to happen.
Do it correctly the first time or don’t do it at all. Separate merchant systems for each planet capable of cross communication when called upon and an additional one for the bazaar alone. Spend the money and fix the design problem correctly, patching and using Band-Aids is a waste of time and money.
My 2 cents.
