I am working toward Merchant class and one thing is not clear to me. If you can't place your shop in a city (I think that is correct, no?), do you have to set up outside of town? If so, how do you drive customers to your shop? Are people building next to each other, despite the lack of player cities?

I am on Talus on the Lowca server and I have noticed no one seems to be operating shops yet (that I have heard or seen). Either the development on Talus is very slow, or the server is quite casual.

You have to set up outside of town, yes.

Driving customers is up to you. I keep lists of everyone I've ever done face to face business with and send them a link to my store after I sell them something. Just keep good stock and you'll be fine.

People ARE building next to each other. I've got my droid engineer right next door.

Not slow, just casual most likely (like Gorath)

I think the idea of merchs putting their shops near each other is great. Having a mini-merch city not far from the main cities would be a great thing for everyone. When I build my shop soon, I plan to locate some other merch's near each other and plop down right next to them.

Here is another ide that I use to great success. I use a couple of people I sell alot of goods to, in my case weapons, and that I really get along with, and I pay them to make a macro advertising my shop when they are in a populated area. I pay them weekly, and so far I have recieved very good returns on my advertising

This is a concern of mine too...its hard to get peeps out to the shop....the first day i opened...peeps didnt even know it was a shop...i think shops should look different than houses or get a big sign to identify them from houses.....
