Tried to name a vendor Master Furniture and to my surprise, was told it was obscene.

Master, Ma$ter, Mas_ter, and Mas-ter are all obscene.

**edit** are they talking about? Masterbate? Master/Slave?

i tried to name my vendor the terribly offending "Stims, Spice, and Food"

it's an obvious racial slur, just read between the commas

The Kauri Server where i play is the "unofficial" french speaking server. I would think that by now, as most boxes finally arrived in France from US and Canada, 50% of the population is french speaking. Now i could type really obsene french words without being censored, on vendors and in chat.

I also found out that censoring some words like **edit**, which is i think kind of casual more than vulgar, makes you sound vulgar, as the **** could be interpreted as a really rudeword (pity SOE is only 3 letters =) )

There's another thread on this, where we tried to nail down the problem, but were not able to get it exactly. We have a pretty good idea tho:

The 'obscenity' message is NOT just for obscene names. That's the default message for ANY name that it will not allow. So, you're thinking, why would they not allow this non-vulgar name? Well, it seems partially related to having to be unique. If I name a vendor Silia Weapons, then try to name the next one Silia ANYTHING, it won't let me. So, my first inclination was that vendor's first names had to be unique, and what I chose was already used.

BUT, someone in my other thread pointed out that they pulled it off. We looked for details, and they mentioned that the two vendors with same first names were DIFFERENT TYPES. SO, maybe they have to have a unique first-name among that TYPE.

Regardless of the details, we found that if you get creative, and name the vendor, you'll be fine. So, if you have three vendors, and naming it "weapons", "armor", "resources" doesn't work, try this:

"Neoptia Weapons", "Crutchen Armor" , "Megnalus Resources" or whatever creative type names you can come up with for the NPCs. From the merchants I know, this has worked 100% everytime. Give it a shot, and post your efforts in here for others to learn from.

Man, I am so STUPID to not understand that "try something less obscene" is just a shorter way of saying "that name is already taken". Oh well, at least I'm still learning

Untrue. My first vendor is Beevo's and it took it.

I think the person talking about the message being generic is on to something. Someone told me you can't use ranks (military) in a name, which explains why I can't use General as in General Merchandise. Of course, I can't use Merchandise either.....

Also, I couldn't use Wookiee, but that was for a practical joke and not important....

The naming filter for vendors appears to be 10 times harsher than for character names, judging by some of the morons I see walking around the cities....
