Easy Question.

"If they introduce NPC vendor maintenance fees before they fix the numerous bugs affecting these vendors, will you quit the Merchant Profession, or SWG all together."

Please don't be reactionary. Think over before you post.

Personally I'm not sure Ill quit the profession (yet). But I will definately close the store I had open, and effectively sease to function as a Merchant. Why should I pay for something that's broken beyond belief. I am not a crafter. I don't want to be a crafter My margins are small, I have a huge inventory (over 1,000,000 credits worth of items). I AM NOT PAYING 32,000 Credits a day for things that just don't work.. My turnover is only 32,000 credits a day.... I can onlp play every 2-3 days So i cannot be listed on the map 100% of the time.

Well I wouldn't quitthe class butI would surrender some boxes backand reduce my vendors down from the 6 I have now to maybe 2 and just offer the best selling clothingitems so I know I can cover the fees and still make a profit. So basically the customer will get the shaft becuase I would have been penalised for trying to offer a good choice of clothing items.

I don't even really consider Merchant as it's own class really atm it's so broke, to me it'smore that skill I raised so I can advertise on the map and even that doesn't work correctly. So I would hang on in there but cut back on the points I have invested in the class.

I will close all but one vendor, and it will be understocked with only fast selling items avalible. It will bark the message for more stuff contact nook for a secure trade.

The more stuff I have for sale the more money I will lose, so I may just become a pistoleer, with a small shop on the side.

I don't want to. I like being a merchant. But I have the feeling that with this maintenance I'm going to be losing money, which makes the whole thing kind of pointless.

Factory bugs already drove me out. Last day is tomorrow. (I can already hear the corks popping among the nerf happy crowd.) This is just another nail in the coffin making sure the lid stays nice and tight down.

Introduced ? I've always paid them. I prefer the Bazaar style vendor.

I'll quit merchant even if the current fees are fixed for NPCs after the fixes go in. It's just too much for an architect to have a few hundred k worth of stuff sitting in a vendor for days on end waiting for a buyer.

It would certainly eliminate the vender I keep in the PA hall that offers items from a number of crafters up for sale: I can't be in the business of having to predict the maintainence rate on items who's sales rate I'm unsure of, and it would be too socially akward to have to tell PA mates that their product are going to lose me personally money to sell.

It would likely not eliminate by vender in Wayfar or on Dantooine, as both survive on quick turnaround consumable items in environments where I can charge a premium. It will, however, lower the amount of that margin that goes back to my suppliers (as the risk to sell will be much higher than it was previously.)

In general, it will mean less selection on the venders that remain, as only the cost-effective & quick turn around items will survive (since an item unsold after 7 days will have just had 25% of the retail price evaporate in costs.)

I'm frightened about what "Planetary Map" will do to costs now as well ... if it raises it too much, I'll sacrifice that skill and keep AD II (custom bark can be used effectively), Hiring II (I'm a sucker for hammerhead merchant)and Novice Merchant.

Rational economic strategy if this "fix" goes in.

1. Don't be a Merchant. There is, at that point, literally no way, and I mean NO WAY, to make it as a person who sells the goods that other people make. No "buy low, sell high". No emporium, no supermarket, nothing. All general stores, and anything of that sort, should go out of business. Period. Maybe that's what the devs want. Whether they want it or not, they're going to get it.

2. The only vendors that will be viable are vendors for weaponsmiths and armorsmiths where the vendor contains only a small selection of high turnover goods, a way to see what the crafter offers. A tailor won't do it, because the vendor listing doesn't tell anything worth knowing--they'll just put things up on display. With weapons and armor, you need to see the stats. The crafter will have to stay in his store and replenish the vendor constantly. He can't afford to load it up so he can go someplace else and have adventures--way too expensive--and he can't afford to let it go empty--no customers.

So the answer to the question is, "Yes, of course I'll stop being a Merchant. I'll get rid of my vendors and close my store. I literally cannot run the business that I've been having fun running."

Which means that I'm going to do more than stop being a Merchant. If this formula, or anything close to it, goes in the game, I'm gone. Done. Finished. Stick a fork in me.

If it goes in as proposed, I will try to work with other Tarquinas merchants to institute a one-week vendor boycott. No vendors, anywhere. If they want to break the player economy then let's break it all the way and bring commerce to a screeching halt, to see how they like it.

If it goes in and stays in, I'll drop everything but one vendor and leave nothing for sale on it, it will simply be a drop-box for me to leave specific customers orders in when I receive them.

This player economy has become such a crystal clear example of why over-managed planned economies fail miserably in the real world .... the devs must have actually admiredthe Soviet economy. Pretty soon SWG will be the East Germany of MMORPG's.
