Thread: Idea for Merchant (from a non-Merchant)

There is a thread somewhere in the smuggler forum about ...lets just say 'stuff' because the thread cover's a lot.


Within that thread it went off track a bit on the contraband and how there should be fines on things ranging from many things including high end resources. Then the resources idea got some attention for awhile and I thought I would share the general idea with you guys ... and see if maybe you like it ... you guys may want to start trying to get it done.


The general idea is that there should be a tax on import/export of resources.


There are two ideas on this:


1) All resources are taxed, and high end resources (say 900+ stats) have a higher tax.
2) High end resources are taxed for every stat that is 900+


Some smugglers (including myself) liked the idea, but thought that Smugglers import illegal items. Resources are not illegal items, so Master Merchants (being the 'big business' of SWG) should get a discount on these taxes. Once a tax on a resource unit is paid, it won't be charged again...so you can re-sell it tax free.


It would give merchants an opportunity to set up a 'buying' shop on a planet, and a centralized selling shop.

I made a simular idea like this to get smugglers more involved, but my idea was to add "alternative resources" spawned on new planets (with space expantion)
These new resources could replace for example copper, iron etc.. to make better weapons, armor, food etc..

These resources should ofcourse be considered illegal.. and have to be smuggled into the current systems with smugglerships.


I would also like to limit size of resources stack we can cary and force us to hire ships to transport our resources between the different planets..

So what you are saying is: "Let's find a way to gouge crafting classes more..."



Do you realize that just to make a ranged weapon you need 3 subcomponents that require a minimum of 2 resources up to 7 resources to make and then anywhere from 3 to 10 resources for the final combine. I, as a master weaponsmith, have more stacks of resources then what will fit in a PA HAll, 2 Large Naboos and 7 Small Naboo houses! You think I should pay taxes on them now? It's bas enough that I have to pay the maint on all of these storage facilities and my 3 shops...


Resources are already expensive enough (you can expect to pay anywhere from 5cpu to 30cpu on weapons grade resources) without having silly idea like this floating around that just add to the cost of making weapons.

I hear ya Hailene. I'm also a MWS on Naritus, and you're right that good resources cost big money! Being a crafter takes big money! At any given timeI'm losing thousands of credits per day just from maintentance on harvesters, vendor and my house. I'm lucky that many people in my guild donated resources to me after I made MWS. To have the amount of resources you have I think is pretty amazing, kudos to you. I keep all of mine in a medium Tatooine house on the northeast corner of Mos Quito. To taxresources and other itemkept inside a private residence would be like taxing my DVD collection inside my own home.


The point is, taxes just plain suck, in game and in real life.
