Thread: Questions about vendors for hire from a non-merchant

Hi Merchants,

I was wondering if you could answer a question for me. I own a Cantina in a player city and I want to set up merchants there for certain things, such as chef food and smuggler spices. I'm not a merchant, so I'm assuming I can't do this on my own. But, in order to have vendors there what would I need to do? Give admin priviledges to a merchant? Also, say I wanted to sell my own spices...Could I conceivably hire a merchant to set up a vendor in my Cantina, then give him/her the spices to sell? Is it basically a matter of entering into a partnership based on trust? If a vendor sells spices I make, do I get the money from the spices sold, or does the vendor's owner get the money? Then, one of us (whoever gets the money) splits the proceeds after the fact? Or do vendors have some internal game mechanic where both parties get a commission?

Or, is what I'm thinking of doing not even possible? I assume it is because I see them in Cantinas sometimes, and I can't imagine that someone would have to be a master dancer, merchant, and crafter all at the same time. But, I could be wrong.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I did a minimal search but wasn't coming up with anything. If there is a thread or FAQ anywhere about this already, feel free to point me to it. Thank you.

What about when the Mall/cantina goes under and you want to move your vendor, but the merchant is no where to be found?

Correct. You must be a Merchant, or to place a vendor.

But, in order to have vendors there what would I need to do? Give admin priviledges to a merchant?

Correct.

Also, say I wanted to sell my own spices...Could I conceivably hire a merchant to set up a vendor in my Cantina, then give him/her the spices to sell?

Also Correct.

Is it basically a matter of entering into a partnership based on trust?

Yes. If you are only looking to sell your own wares on one vendor, though, then you should probably get Novice Artisan and build up to Business III. At that point you will be able to place one of the Bulky Machine Vendors.

If a vendor sells spices I make, do I get the money from the spices sold, or does the vendor's owner get the money?

You would offer your spices to the Vendorat the amount you expect to get. At that point the items you offered are only visible to the owner of the vendor. Thenthe Merchant would buy them from you as needed, at which point you get paid, and re-list them on the vendor for the selling price so others could then buy them. The owner of the vendor would have to increase the price of the items from what you offered in order to make his/her profit.

Then, one of us (whoever gets the money) splits the proceeds after the fact?

Nope. See above.

Or do vendors have some internal game mechanic where both parties get a commission?

Also No. See above.

They only need to have admin for as long as it takes to drop the vendors though. As soon as the vendors are down, and displays (if any) are built, you can revoke admin rights and they can still service their vendor as normal.

Thank you both for your replies, very helpful information. As far as Business III goes, I don't think I can really do that as my skill points are pretty much all accounted for. Plus, I think I want to place the vendor(s) behind the bar and want them to look like people, as if they were bartenders.

Anyway, again, thanks!

since vendors don't count towards the item limit of a place you can redeed a structure with a merchant inside. That and getting CSR invovled are the only ways to get rid of vendors that get left behind.
