I have personally gone to over 20(bria, naboo) vendors in last hours...and empty.....and there is NOWAY all these vendors all sold out. Hell most of them when I got the the WP I knew would be empty.....were small naboo homes, with entry fees. Please dev do something about this. This is the main reason I usually ONLY shop through SPAM channels....sad as that is.....

I know what you mean.I didn't see your post before I started mine (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=merchant&message.id=25327), but I had the same problem on Naboo and Corellia on Wanderhome Server.

I recently went into a shop that I have frequented before only to find the vendors empty. I was a bit annoyed but figured maybe they had just had a run and hadn't been online to restock. This happens to us all at one time or another. Then I noticeda backpack in the center of the room informing me that they owner had cancelled his account.

Ok.. find..but why the devil is he annoying everyone by leaving his vendors on the map empty? If he is gone why didn't he delete his vendors before he left and give his friends (assuming he has any) whatever was left over. Or stored it in the house and put the house private?

There are all sorts of problems to work out on a proposal to let us know which vendors aren't active though. Most of the vendors I go to right now are flat empty so a system that would remove those from the global map would be helpful, however many people would break this system by putting placeholders on their vendor to keep them from getting removed from the map. (That is such a stupid thing to do btw because the only thing worse than not being on the map is tons of people coming into your shop and seeing your vendors are empty..they just write you off and don't come back)

A rating system seems like a good idea on the surface but how do you avoid griefing?

An item count listing is probably not workable becuase it would require too much communication with the vendor. Right now the vendor only has to update the map database when it is loaded the first time after a restart. Having it update the map with item counts constantly would probably not be a good idea on a large scale.

I suggest that the simply empty vendor removal from the map is a starting point as it will remove those cases where the owner simply didn't realize his vendor was empty or he left the game and the sales all expired from the sales window into the stock room. Other more complex systems could be proposed once we have a proposal that we could sell to the devs and both workable and not overly taxing to the sytem.

Here's my idea:

Much like you can browse many bazaar listing from a single bazaar terminal, you turn the planetary map UI into an online browser of sorts. So I open up the planetary map, drill down to the vendor listings, and open up a vendor interface by clicking the vendor's title.

From this window I can see all that the vendor has to offer. The browsing gives no merchant xp to the vendor. In order to purchase an item I have to travel to his location and use the vendor, where he will receive his earned xp.

I would be happy with just a number behind the vendor name that stated how many items the vendor has in stock at the moment.

I run a shop on Rori and keep restocking them. Yet I can hardly get any visitors unless I spent a whole nite spam at the starport really wish the dev could do something to give advertisement its true value.

This is SOOOO true. Everyone complains about the spamming, but there are currently 2 reasons WHY it isn't gonna go away.

1: There is no other way to reach a mass of players at one time atm

2: It works. After sitting at corenet for 3 hrs advertising, i can sell 500k of stuff (course the big draw is Brandy :smileywink that players have to travel 7k m. to get to!!! (no shuttle yet)

My only suggestion to peeps who do this, is to put at least a 90sec delay between shouts. Let others at least hold a small conversation without annoying them.
