Before I begin, you should know I’m referring to the xp you get after novice merchant as everything before that is General Crafting xp. Also know that im speaking as someone who has a character with a vendor on a different server, then Lowca so this would apply to her as well, though she isn’t going to be taking any merchant. If crafters have taken the time to make stuff to fill the vendors, then I am perfectly willing to come in and browse if they have on their vendor what they advertise on the world map. It just seems to me that some people get to where they can have their vendor shown on the world map then slack off, advertising vendors that sell the popular items(clothing, vehicles, armor..etc) and set up an access fee so that they can still get credits and merchant xp without really having to much at all. Whereas with combat xp, credits have to be obtained by actually making the effort to complete missions, or other crafters who don’t have merchant still need to make the effort to make things and pay 20 credits to sell their items on the open market. It
just seems too easy to scam for credits and xp in the Merchant Profession.

I think for merchant, xp should NOT be based on how many times a vendor is approached or browsed through, instead it should be based on how many items they sell, including items that had been offered to the vendor by other people, and for how much. This prevents them from setting up a vendor with little or nothing in it and still gaining xp.

Also, I’m sure I’m not the only one who is annoyed with this but I think its highly rude for people to set up vendors and charge an access fee when they have nothing in their vendors. It is a very cheap and lazy way to get merchant xp if that is their intention. It like false advertising in real life, and people get really angry at that sort of thing. The DEVs should impose something so that if a vendor is empty, there automatically is no entrance fee. All buildings that have a vendor, should have this imposed so that merchants have to legitimately earn xp and credits like the rest of us. Nor should they be allowed to set up an entrance fee if they have a vendor initialized by someone else in a house, tent or PA Hall. Of course then the unscrupulous ones would find a way around that by only putting one or two items on the vendor, then suddenly people have to give them credits to gain entry again. But then it goes back to the xp. If you wont take away the entrance fee for empty vendors, then change the xp for merchants. If its based on how many items a merchant
sells, then its in their best interest to make the effort to somehow keep their vendor stocked.

True this in not the case with all vendors. I know in many circumstances, the seller just might not have gotten around to restocking the vendors if they were selling popular items, which sell fairly quick. Plus for tailors, which my Character on Ahazi is, it can be difficult to obtain material that have to be made by other professions, such as bio-tissues. However, I don’t usually make bio clothes as her, just normal clothes. And I know of several honest, people who have vendors, and don’t set up and entrance fee and their vendors are always full. Its those kind of people who get the good reputation and my repeat business. Mainly I’m speaking as someone with characters, such as on Lowca, who are the buyers, and I’m sure a lot of people hate to travel 4km or more to a vendor in another city, pay 1-15 credits to gain entry, only to find nothing in any vendor that might be there.

The best way to affect change on the entry fee front is simply dn't pay it and move to the next store. I think there are legitimite reasons to have an entry fee on a building that has a vendor in it.

The idea of basing the xp off sales instead of views is interesting but it would be that xp would be slower for all Novice Merchants. This is where many of us are completely unable to really make an objective decision on this we are Masters or are where we want to be in Merchant and the xp isn't a concern for us. Those of you just starting out would have to push for this very hard before I think it should be even considered. The empty vendors on the goblal map are a problem that we need to find a solution for, I'm not sure there has been a great suggestion yet though I do support the idea of removing empty vendors from the map even though that isn't a complete solution.

I never bother to enter a house with an entrace fee. I learned the hard way long ago that there is nothing useful inside.

The system works the way it is. Just slowly.

Personally I would rather have another combat profession to do than merchant. It's taking me forever. I ran a lottery for 3 days, w/ an entry fee and ended up giving away about 1 million worth of goodies for about 60k exp. (even the losers got 5k per 15 min entry. In some cases, this was more than the 100k pot, and the force crystal)

If it were based off of total sales I would be done by now, so that is a valid point I guess Refunding 50% of all purchases across the board got me alot of return customers. However, this has been the most expensive profession I have done so far w/ "maybe" the exception of architect. When I get this last 6k exp I need to master, I will give all of my goodies to a merchant who really wants to sell stuff, then delete every last one of the mo fo's. Besides, I can only generate fat wookie girls anyway :/

oops. Forgot a point.

Empty vendors should not only be removed from the map, they should be invis to keep you from getting confused when you walk in a house. Not everyone is smart enough to name them "XPwhoor" etc.
