Why don't they do away with 999,999,999 pricing ability and make the max something like 19,999,999 ?
Sure, SOME things go over the 20mil mark, but not many. Those could be handled individually. This would end using vendors for storage.

It won't end itIMHO because noone isgonne buy a backpack for 20m without knowing what's inside. Let them do what they intended : makingitems inside a backpack count. That will severly limit the storage-issues.

I've always thought that adding a "listing fee" for items above a certain price would curtail this.
Make it like 1% of the cost of EACH item listed above this price per day.
Any items listed under the limit wouldn't be charged anything.
The limit would have to be set fairly high so legitimate loot sales would be unaffected (like maybe 1-3 million).

So if you wanted to list a backpack for 20 million, it'dadd 200k maintenance per day (paid initially when you list the item) to your vendor. Two of those backpacks would add 400k.
That would make such practices very unattractive.
If you wanted to list it at the cap (let's say 3 million) for no fee, somebody might actually feel lucky enough to try to score loot from your storage vendor and you'd have to ask if it was worth the risk.

This would be an even greater risk if you could actually see inside the backpack while it was on the vendor.
Lately I've taken a new approach to my storage vendor (yes, I have more than enough skills to support all the items on all my vendors after the patch) and started placing them in plain sight. I price everything on the vendor at a price I'm willing to accept for the item. If it sells, great! If it doesn't, that's fine too. When I need it, I'll just go pull it out of the vendor. If I run out, I'll make more.

Honestly, I never expected so many sales from a vendor stocked with just random component crates.

I disagree if I want to sell something on my own vendor i shouldn't have to pay a listing fee..its bad enough that you have to for the bazaar as a merchant (mainly cause I consider it a public service if i place anything on the bazaar..as an armorsmith..)

The goal is to put an end to vendor storage, not legitimate business.
That's why the price ceiling would have to be high enough to not interfere with normal sales.
Honestly, anything that costs more than that would probably get more benefit from the trade forums than from sitting on a vendor waiting for someone to stumble across it.

There was some sort of a fee or per hour charge on each item in a vendor at launch and during the wee early days of the game.
My partner and I were appalled and dismayed to find out that we couldn't actually afford to sell anything from our vendor because we couldn't afford the fees to keep things listed.
That was removed after a time, and we could finally list our things.

Yeah, I remember that.
But like I said... this fee would only be charged for SINGLE items listed above a maximum sale price. It wouldn't affect reasonably priced items (and even most high end loot), and wouldn't be calculated as a total value of all items either.
It's meant to put an end to storage of items priced at 99,999,999 or some other insanely high price.

A % of total sales price added to maintains would stop vendor being used for storage. The balance would be to keep it low enough that merchants would not have to worry if a item would sell fast enough, if it would just sell. Perhaps if the 30 days feature was removed it could be a fee only changed when an item was put up for sale, and that would be given back when the item was sold (but not if the sale was withdrawn).
