Thread: Merchant Correspondant List (Week 3)
Yes im for nerfing the business tree in artisan. All or most true merchants ive met (all six of us lol) are. You that are posting against this arent merchants...your some crafters who got merchant xp by putting up your droid terminal, and decided to continue to one extent or another up the tree. You are infact not merchants, you are crafters. You are running roughshod over this forum due to the fact there are so few true merchants that you and yours do infact constitute a majority of those here. You argue for small improvements that dont make merchant a viable class on its own, merely aid you in selling your personal wares. Shame on each and every one of you trying to keep our class gimp for your own selfish enrichment. This is so sad this isnt even funny...there is no "Merchant" class...we are nothing more thena daliance for the viable classes. And when we start trying to make merchant a viable stand alone class, the diddlers get up in arms. Some things, despite the opinion of the unwashed masses, do need to be fixed...(nerfed) so sorry this would entail sharing a little of your wealth with others...this is a game of interdependance. Next time i see one of you arguing against this bragging about your 20million in the bank, i will blow a fricken gasket. ![]()
Hey everyone-
While i agree with the removal of vendors from business 3, I think that vendors still need some special perk. Also, while I like going up the skill ladders quickly, i think that the xp rate should be decreased. It takes hours of clicking over and over to advance in any skill that requires crafting, but for us merchants we just sit there, do a couple missions, craft some items, whatever you do on the side, and before you know it, you can advance one skill in all four ladders. But mostly, I think we just need something more valuable to other players. I liked the idea about being able to place some items from your vendor onto a local bazaar as well. Or maybe merchants should be the people that manage the new player city shops and such that are in the making, and in return they gain a certain percentage of credits from each sale...like a sales tax or something.

I'd really like to know where anyone got the idea merchants were SUPPOSED to be a standalone profession. I mean - you aren't going to spend all those other points on something?
I'm a MASTER merchant - thank you very much, but that's secondary to being a MASTER tailor.
What merchant does is soak up skillpoints and forces more diverse character choices.
You certainly CAN coordinate with craftsmen and pursue the noncrafter merchant as a very viable trade, but that doesn't mean you can hold the 99.9% of creating professions hostage and try to force a monopoly on the ability to sell.
Being in a PA, FOAD!!, I have to say what we need is Guild Only Vendors!
Other than that your work was excellent on that post Margie!
I also feel that we as a profession have been relegated to b@sta@rd step children as anyone can get enough xp to place a vendor. We need to be able to offer benefits to those who supply us with goods. Merchants SHOULD be able to sell items over 3k on the bazaar once they hit a certain level, to keep joe schmo from getting just enough xp. It should be enough that it is an expensive skill commitment perhaps Master Merchant with an expensive listing fee.
Margie. Last time I looked you are the Merchant Correspondent not the Artisan Correspondent.
Concern yourself therefore with merchants and stop advocating the nerf to another class.
After Shifting threw all the Rants, and being a Merchant myself, I have a few suggestions that might help
I believe that Any Change brings vast consequences.
Item 1 - Dev really needs to fix everything thats broken before they bring more broken NEW stuff into the game, Advertisement, Vendors, etc.
Item 2 - One of the items that are lacking for merchant, really is this, why would any class want to pay a merchant to sell stuff on our vendors, and what good are 7 vendors to a merchant if all we can really sell are stuff you would find in a Dollar Store, unless you have some Major PA ties, I dont know about everyone else, but when I want a Droid, I go find a Droid Engineer. I believe to follow threw with Player Asc. the best thought I have to help resolve the issue, really would be in Artisan Bussiness Line, give Artisans stuff like Reduced Fees, like perhaps a 2% reduced Structure Fees for Harvesters, and perhaps Reduced Galactical Travel Fees, etc. And leave Vendors for Merchants, however, to make things simple on crafters, why not have Merchants Supply the Vendors, and be allowed to assignVendor Rights to folks, with a % of whatever is sold from that Vendor, so say Architect puts a Medium Mineral Extractor up for sell for 40k, and the merchant could get like 5% cut of the purse once the item was sold. That way, Artisans wouldnt need vendors, because Merchants would hold that front, which is their front and respectfully isnt an Artisan front. (The difference between Wholesale and Retail, Distrubution Center and Parts Store)
Item 3 - Shop Signs, I like the idea of being able to change folks house signs for them, however, that means you have to be set as Administrative, so unless they are basically your friends, you cant really do much for a customer. My thoughts on that is allow us something similar to Image Designers, we can design them a sign, with Color Text and perhaps different Color Customize Sign with Implemented Patterns of Devs choice.
Management 1: this would cover basic signs, allowing like 8 colors, 1 sign type, 4 patterns
Management 2: this would cover advanced signs, allowing like 8 more colors, 2 more sign types, 4 more patterns
Management 3: this would cover expert signs, allowing like 8 more colors, 2 more sign types, 4 more patterns
Management 4: this would cover master signs, allowing like 10 more colors, 3 more sign types, 5 more patterns
Master Merchant: this would give you 16 more colors, 4 more sign types, 6 more patterns
A Master Merchant would be able to design the sign, and the customer would be able to see the sign changes, and give an affirmative if they want the shop sign changed.
Item 4 - A Bulletin at every Shuttle Port and Starport would be nice as well
A Bulletin would be a shop listing, only usuable by merchants, to list bussiness', like an ad at your local store, etc. That way, while folks are sitting there waiting for their shuttle to come in, they can browse the Galactical Bulletin for shops, so when they get to their destination, they already have the waypoint, now they now where to go to get what they want, honestly, it would bring a more realism to the game, rather then going to my travel map, and seeing like 20 vendors on it.Plus merchants would be able to place ads on these Bulletins for other crafters, therefore allowing craddling yet another option of why being a merchant is unique and a stand alone class, not a secondary muppit.
Comment - As per 3 Droids to Protect Merchants, I believe Droid Engineers should be able to have a couple Droids out, and I know this isnt the Droid Engineer spot, so Merchants being allowed to have 3 Droids out would certainly be unjust. Perhaps 3 Hireling NPCs, Bodyguards, and implement more Droids allowed out at once by Droid Engineers. Afterall, thats how they sell them, in the movies, with Jawas, you didnt see 20 Jawas with 20 Droids, you saw a handful of Jawas with like 20 droids.
