Thread: I'm curious is anyone a Pure Merchant?
And that has been true even back when you could repair disabled bikes by travelling.

I've been in this forum since day one and I never understand the position that someone who buys all your merchandise for what you are asking for it is somehow doing something wrong. I understand you want it to last. I understand you want it to be sold to more than just one person but if you get what you asked for it you don't really have a reason to complain. If they are getting more for it on their vendor then you are charging to little for your items. If they get stuck with it then you should just smile at the profit you made and make more stuff.
I would ban someone from my shop for doing that to me as well. For the several reasons mentioned. If it annoys me then it's wrong, and there is nothing wrong with banning someone from your shop who annoys you.
Think of it this way. KMart runs a sale on item ABC to increase shopper traffic so they also might pickup item XYZ. Walmart can't send their employees to Kmart and buy all their product off the shelves, then stock those items in their store. They would be thrown out for stealing business.
Likewise I knowingly stock some items below "normal" price to increase traffic. Some commodity items like speeders, stims, powerups, brandy. If they visit often to get these commodity items they're more likely to buy the high end armor/weapons/BE Foods.
There's alot more to being a successful merchant than buying low and selling high. Thus there are many reasons why another merchant buying out some of your stock can be taken as an offense.
You are free to ban anyone you want for any reason. However, you selling your speeder at a cut rate price affects my business too. If you were undercutting me I'd buy them from you and reselll them. You could ban me..and all my guildmates, and anyeone else I decide to send in as an agent..or you could stop trying to undercut my business and price your speeders at a reasonable price. Its your choice.
And if he was a real *insert outrage here* about it -- undercutting me to the point where I cared, I could log in 1 of over 42 characters I have access to at anytime and buy it all out through them. That includes imperials, neutrals and rebels, covering 28 guilds and many non-guildeds. If he somehow banned all of them then I'd just start asking other friends in game I've had relationships for over a year with to buy it out.

I refuse to sell swoops. Waste of good metal if you ask me.
But my guild mates that do were scared for the longest time to raise prices over 30k. I did an analysis sheet of their sales over 3 months and they raised the prices to 40k. Swoops sell as fast as ever.

This goes along with my basic theory of SWG economics: People HAVE money to spend.
An elite combat type can make the money in one mission to buy a new vehicle. Few of them run just one mission.
I sell about 50 swoops a week. On those rare occasions when I acquire the other types of vehicles, they sell out pretty quickly too, but not fast enough for me to divert my resources from making swoops.
I could lower my prices and sell them even faster but why? I'd make more cash in the short run, but I wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand for them. I even had to stop selling them by the crate to slow down sales a little bit. Did I ban the people that bought them from my shop? No. They paid me the money that I expected. I adjusted my end of the economic equation and brought things back into balance.
One thing I'll guarantee, tho, nobody comes into my shop looking to buy things at wholesale prices so that they can stock their own vendors. And if I am selling something way below its value, it's because I haven't been able to sell it or I'm seriously overstocked and I've discounted it to get rid of it.
As for resource quality, the difference is not that significant. A swoop that will die in1 hitvs one that will die in 3 hits. Anything that's determined to take your vehicle down is gonna do it and there won't be much you can do to stop it. The maintenance rate is the same. About the only real difference is how frequently you have to stop and repair it.
Then again, when so many players have bankrolls in the tens of millions of credits, pretty much the only thing they worry about when it comes to buying swoops is "does this vendor have one in it?"

In RL K-mart can and does buy out wal-marts sale items if they think it can help K-mart. That is why limit 1 (or n) to a customer is used. Too bad SOE did not give us that option

Lol the crafter that banned me never did figgure out that I was sending in moles. The moles were instructed to never buy everything and say it was for their guild if questioned why more than 1. Even funnier I made a side deal with the crafters partner (who was far more reasonable

You could try but you would not be successful. Eventually all your cash would be tied up in buying my speeders and I can simply make more every day with the cash you spent. Soon you would realize you really have no control over what someone else deems a reasonable profit. Prices will and do constantly change. You either move with the market or sink.

You're missing the point. I'm not controlling you. I'm selling your underpriced merchandise for a profit. I'm not hoarding them. I'm not trying to prevent you from changing the market, I'm profiting on the transaction. Why should I make the product when I can obtain it from you and make a profit on each sale?
You are right in that if I misunderstand the market I get stuck with product that my cash is tied up in and have to lower my prices to sell them. But if you have seriously miscalculated the price you should be charging for the produt I can sell them all day long for higher prices. Its not about punishing you anyway..its about me making my profit.

'
There is no real life law against TRYING to create a monopoly there are only penalties that can be imposed if you actually succeed
Price fixing requires cooperation. Me buying your stuff and repricing it is not price fixing. Neither is you and I agreeing on a wholesale price and me marking it up.
In any even such laws don't apply to SWG anyway
