I am NOT STEALING any tools I just used what I needed and now that I do not need them then is no reason to keep them. The create vendor and customise vendor asre the tools not OPERATE vendor. I have no hatred for any profession I can do everything I actually need to do with a Coke machine vendor, why should I make my customers life difficult by having them search through 300 items on an unattractive vendor when they can check a 1 page listing on 3 separate vendors that are labeled to what they sell.

Definition -- Tool :

A device use to perform or facilitate work

Definition -- Merchant :

  1. One whose occupation is the wholesale purchase and retail sale of goods for profit.
  2. One who runs a retail business; a shopkeeper

Sorry MormiHalba but the vendors are the merchant's tools thatare specific to their class.

Now don't get me wrong, I dont care that you gave up the ability to dress your vendor (since you cant re-dress the vendor if you dont have the skill). But Ad barking, Map registration, and most importantly number of vendors should require you to keep those skills. I'm sure you'll ask why, so here's the answer -- because these abilities are constantly being used. If I use your arguement -- then all ex-doctors should still be able to buff and rezz; all ex-commandos should still be able to flamecone 2; all ex-weaponsmith would still be able to craft any weapon. To keep the game fair for those that choose to be Master Merchants; they, and they alone, should have exclusive rights to whats in their skill tree.

3. This is a very big issue in my opinion. We run a group of tents in our town (sorted into categories) and a few of us are master merchants who run the tents, and allow the rest of the craters in town to place vendors in the appropriate tent. Over 5 months ago one of our tailors had to take some maternity leave (we miss you xelene!) and her vendor is STILL in our tent. We've asked CSR's to remove the vendor for us, and obviously they are not willing to do this... Therefore i find this a very important issue.

7. Playing 'Vendor Roulette' trying to find the perfect vendor is quite the pain! This has been something i've wanted since getting master merchant oh-so-long ago.

I would also really like to see some special items for merchants to use to decorate shops, as well as special features such as music in tents, cantinas, and malls (if they're added).

If I as a master Smuggler / Art (loot) dealer am forced to choose between a singlecoke machine vendor or feeding money to someone that has the RL funds to have an ALT chac. My comment will be goodbye SOE hello Blizzard and World of Warcraft.

The in game mechanics would have to have a dramatic change in the way items are bought and sold before removing LEGIMATE vendors without notice could be justified. I still stand by the opinion that PLACE vendor is the tool not operate because if you your this theory only surveyors should be able to operate heavy harvesters only those with survey skills should be able to operate and sort of harvester with the size and efficiency only available as you go up the survey tree.

Good bye! Good Luck! Don't let the door hit your A$$ on the way out! We don't need any more exploiters!

Thankfully SOE had decided that anyone, even you, can place harvesters, because they are goods made by Architects for the benefit of the userbase at large, just like armor and weapons. The strategic advantage that Surveryors are that they know the best location to set them down to get the best concentrations of raw materials.

I'm glad you realize its your opinion only, as its not my opinion, the vast majority of Merchants' opinions, and most impotantly, SOE's opinion.

To continue the debate and let you know that I have 4 vendors placed and I am currently 0/2/0/2 Merchant in case whiners actually cause SOE to change the current CORRECT system.

Please explain to me what services a merchant can actually provide me other than paying me up from for my stock then listing them on his vendors.

You don't have to cancel the open box, position it so you can stll see the "Sell" button and just hit that after the item has been put up for sale. It will reuse the same window. Hopefully we can get a revamp of that interface and add some more batch options in the future.

Hi. I'm kinda new to this profession, so pardom me for sugesting some things that may have been shot down a long time ago. I figure these idea might make all the Skill Blocks of the profession more desireable to keep, and make us more integral to the Game Experience.

1. In the same way we get more vendors as we go up the Management Tree, we should get aditional Ad-Barker Droids that we can deploy as we go up the Advertising tree.

2. In the Efficienfy Tree give us a Stockboi Droid at lev 1, and an aditional one up the tree, so at Master Merchant you can have 5 Stockbois.
2a. Stockboi Droid is based off of a BLL. It can travel to ANY Bazzar or a Vendor listed on a planetary map. It can travel 1) the cheap-but-slow route of walking to destination. or 2) fast-but-costly route by using shuttleports. Stockboi Adv Droid is based off of a BLL Adv, and can travel via starports to other planets, and then use the above 2 choices for reaching the final destination.
2b. Droid can load stock into destination vendor/bazzar or pick up items already available/purchased.
2c. We would get reduced price tickets for the Droids as we progress up the Efficienfy Tree.

3. On the Hiring Tree, allow a Merchant to post MIssions at MIssion Terminals.
3a. Hiring 1 -Delivery missions at the General Mission Terminal. Player picks up items from a vendor/bazzar to deliver to another player that has purchased items remotely. Player receives money in bank upon delivery (not thru trade window, but a Deliver Item option off the radial). Customer has option to tip, but not required.
3b. Hiring 2 - Survey (Artisan) and Hunting(Explorer) Missions - Player retrives particular resource from source and delivers it to a Bazzar (the Stockboi Droid can alway pick it up for you).
3c. Hiring 3 - Entertainer Missions - not sure how to do this one exactly, but maybe someone could pay the Merchant and the Merchant posts the mission. Might be a way to get entertainers to go to other cantinas besides Coronet, like Endor or Yavin.
3d. Hiring 4 - No idea. Maybe Faction-based Smuggling Missions - Deliver x to Rebels or Empire and expect heavy resistance. Faction being benefitted might award FP on success, or cover a percentage of the cost or something
3e. Master Merchant - Player Bounties or something like that.

I'm doing merchant for my holo grind and I will not keep the vendors. I have but one question/problem with it. I run a vendor that a couple people supply and I buy their offers and sell the goods. When I buy the goods they go directly to my stockroom or inventory now with the hotfix on 5-4-04. But when I try and sell the goods I get a big window that says sell the item. I click it. A sysmessage shows up saying "This item has been put up for sale". This is where I have a problem. I can't just keep clicking sell item. I have to first click Cancel, then click Sell Item again. I wouldn't mind, but I don't really supply much to my vendor I have other people selling it to me. Is there anyway around the click Cancel part so I can just click Sell Item a bunch of times for identical goods. I know this is a little confusing, but any help would be great.

I think the idea of losing Merchant abilities (dressing vendors, advertising, number of vendors) as you drop the points is pretty much essential- as others have said, other professions don't keep their skills, why should we?

I'm currently working towards Master (only 190AP left :-)), and will keep hold of it for a while at least, but eventually, I'll want to go and shoot stuff. When that happens, I don't expect to get to keep any perks; if there's any skills I want to keep (like map registration), I'd expect to have to keep at least Advertising 3. Anyone who wants to keep more than 1 vendor should be expceted to keep the appropriate management level.

As far as fixes / wishlists go, I'm with most others, in that I want a better method of advertising. Currently, I have a vendor registered on the map, but unless someone actually opens the map screen or passes my shop with overhead switched on, that isn't up to much. The vendor spambots that got introduced with the last publish looked so much like they were going to help, but with them autostoring and requiring me to be logged on, I might as well stand at Coronet yelling stuff myself, thus annoying everyone.

I thik a better option would be some kind of merchant advertising (introduced as a facility of Advertising 3 or 4), either

a) as others have said, vendor sales visible on the bazzar

b) merchant advertisement posts in cities, with occasional barkers for registered vendors(also someone else's suggestion)

c) placable NPC merchant barkers (weren't these part of the original feature set???)

d) placable advertisement posters / billboards

Each of these has advantages and disadvantages-

(a) would be out of the way, non spamming, but would require buyers to use the bazzars

(b) would be spamming to an extent, but would heavily suggest that the spam was from someone who is maintaining an active vendor

(c) would again be heavy(ish) spamming, but would allow for placement of advertisements in more suitable locations- medical vendors could advertise outside medical centres, weapon / armour vendors could advertise in hunting staging points like Anchorhead.

(d)could possiblybe tricky to implement, but would have the advantages of being non-spamming and appropriately placed. It could also introduce a reliance on image designers to create the billboards. As a counter to them being placed and then left long past the vendor being emptied, they could have a time limit of x days before they fade and are destroyed. Vendor operators could possibly have an allowance of x billboards, which they could distribute around various locations (including othe rplanets) to spread the word

Would be nice to have an optional preview window for item on vendors/bazaar like we have in inventory instead of having to click examine on each item to see stats etc.

I don't see any other threads right now, so I suppose a post in this one is most appropriate... when I was doing Merchant on my alt, there was the bug where you couldn't get into your vendor after reset... the bug is still there and I'm sitting here trying to get into a Chef's vendor and it sits at "Initializing the vendor."

I'm not a merchant or anything anymore, but thought I'd point out the annoyance anyways... if I'm not mistaken this affects both customers [can't buy] and the sellers [can't stock].
