Thread: Merchants, Why do you stand for this outrage?

Wrong. You use your merchant skills everytime you put something on sale, retrieve it or whatever. Or it's what it's supposed to be, once they have fixed that BS.

ace what i meant was that you get USE that healing skill when you need it....
merchant skills just sit there...you get the points...get the vendor or the planet listing and thats...you never do anything else with it after the placement...i havent "used" any of my merchant skills in like 6 months.
My alt (Katira MM) also uses her skills every time she pays maint. on something. That alone has saved me millions. Heck, someone could make a good income by charging 10% of the 20% discount a master merchantgets on maint.
Have them put in, say 10000, give you admin rights, you put in 1cr. Their maint for that item now cost 20% less. They tip you 1k. They take you off the admin list. They have saved 10% (roughly) . The discountwill hold until a non-merchant puts more in.

Somehow I really doubt that your savings is actually "millions". My experience is that it is such a tiny fraction of my cashflow that it isn't even noticable. I find those savings more of an insult than a benefit. I am a successful merchant, and an important skill is saving a few hundred credits?
The highest maint on a lot is less than 3000cr/day (don't recall the actual on a max rate heavy, but I think it is a lot less than that). With 10 lots, your max savings is less than 6000/day, and maybe you could save as much as 1000 a day on bazaar fees if you sell 25 premium lots every day.
Realistic savings (before rented lots) are probably well under 4000/day and that is a high estimate. Saving a million at that rate takes 250 days, or a bit longer than the game has been up.
Now with50 or so rented lots (that you personally pay the maint on) all with heavy harvesters, it is just barely possible you have really saved 2 or more million. But then your cashflow is so huge that it is still a drop in the bucket.

oh acey...
you can pull resources out of the ground with your bare hands...
people can just give your resources
resources just drop as loot...
Credits drop as loot
People can just give you credits
I suppose you can't just pull them out of the ground..unless you sell the resources which did come out of the ground..

lol..Millions was a bit extreme. i'd say at least a 750k to a mil over the last 6 months. Kat is paying all maint. expenses for the 2 chars.( socut the time in half-125 days @4000/day :smileywinkwhich both have 0 lots left. When i log on tonight i'll add up current daily exp.
And i'll have to disagree with you on it being a drop in the bucket.20% savings is signifcant to me, but then i'm a tightwad...lol. I know many chars who would would love to have the kind of money i have saved, let alone made.
Oh, and Kat does sell 25 V. brandys every day on the Bazzar now, sometimes 50. Goes faster thenshe can put it up.But that is a recent development. Before that Pet treats would clear every couple days, so figure 12 items per day.
i can make that in a couple of days...
regardless, these savings might be of some benefit if money really mattered...
there is nothing to spend it on....having 10 million is no different than having 1 million..
well i guess you could easily blow a few mill on a gun or a skill tape..
but there is no real benefit to maving more and more money.

Some of my guildmates were talking about making 350k for a suit of armor in a few hours of chaining missions. *sigh*

I disagree. I guess this is a difference in how see/play the game and how I see and play the game. To me, I'm struggling to make a million, right now. But even if I did, 10 million would help me more. Because I can easily use/spend that money. I could finance my cantina with it. I could more effectively advertise with it, by being able to afford prizes and such of fun events. I could invest in more shops. I could help out our newer Guild members. Oh yes, I can think of a LOT of things to do with 10 million credits than I could with 1 million (but if it's such a blase' burden to you, by all means, I'll help relieve you of some of that burden if you'd like
).
People complain about lack of content, and about how they've done everything there is to do in the game. I think this is a character flaw of being too heavily an "achieve/explorer" type. I'm not saying anything against the playstyle, but if one only sees things in context of a destination, and not a journey than people who rush to meet every goal are going to find themselves bored very quickly. Even Killer types lose the zest of the hunt after a while once they've played every combo of the week and have logged kills in the triple or even quadruple digits. People must allow themselves to enjoy the social interactions of the game if they want the game to keep their attention for long. Part of the GOAL of the game was not to provide us with endless dungeons and badges, but also to, in the words of Raph Koster I believe, give us "..the stage and the props" to make our own plays, instead of writing all the scripts for us. To give us the tools to make our own content, which I hope, and still believe, is the goal the developers are eventually, hopefully ramping up towards.
I sometimes wonder if they, the developers and we the players don't often lose sight of that fact.
Part of the problem is that the props we need are not as good as they could be but I think that is getting better. I hope we start to see more and more player generated content. That would be nice. You will always have people though that don't care about that kind of stuff and don't understand those of us who enjoy it.
I know, I just thought I'd interject that, in case we start to forget as well.
I agree the tools need to be better. Much better, but I think, like I said, and hope that's the goal they're ramping up toward.

BTW, if the vendor item count can go up as you master, why can't it go down to zero as you drop Bus 3? That would at least stop the most offensive cases, where the character has no Merchant or even Artisan skills, but still runs a large shopping mall.
Thats a very good idea. And it would be very easy to implement. No excuse on the Devs part as for it being too hard to implement.
And its definitly a step in the right direction.

It already does this your "manage vendor" skill goes down as you give up "Management" and then Novice Merchant and Business III. The problem is they only check it when you go to put down a new vendor.
