The point is you're not supposed to be able to stock your vendors with thousand runs of items and completely corner the market making newer/smaller crafters completely unable to compete
I really don't think so, the lower level crafters can supply the higher level crafters with subcomponents if they really want to sell their wares on the way up the ladder. I would gladly pay any lower level crafter to supply me with structure modules, Storage structure modules, walls, and a long list of subcomponents that are unexperimentable and necessary for everything I build as a master architect.
The point here is to make having the extra storage that is available due to vendors not counting against your house storage obsolete. At this point one vendor can hold an infinate ( or at least it seems, Ive never tested it ) amount of items. So a very small investment in the Merchant skill tree gets you infinite storage in your house. On top of that it is trying to make the hassle of finding things a bit lighter.
Just the other day I was looking to buya few pieces of Encumbeance Sliced Composite armor for some minimal protection while looking after harvesters on dangerouus planets and stuff. I went to the planetary map and looked for armor vendors. I found tons! Unfortunately a great deal of them had nothing on them and continued to have nothing on them for at least a week and I suspect alot of them had been barren for a long time.
I currently have 1630 items on 6 vendors. I am 4/4/0/4 merchant. Had it mastered at one point and decided I didn't really care if I could customize my vendors or have a greater selection so dropped a branch to pick up medic novice to heal myself if need be. I do an o.k. business. Architecture is way undervalued imho due to lack of decay and and a lack of new items to stimulate growth. I very much enjoy crafting stuff. I have a furniture vendor, a housing vendor, a heavy harvesters vendor, a medium harvesters vendor, a factory vendor and a cityscape structures vendor.
I routinely have around 5 pieces of each type of furniture I can make, between 2 and 5 houses of each type, 2 of each type of city structure deeds, 1 of each garden, 10 of each statue and maybe 30-40 of each type of harvesters a piece. A Master Architect can build about 220 distinct items. Many of those items are things people buy in groups such as factories, harvesters, lamps, data-terminals, plants, etc. If I just wanted to put 3 of everything I can make up on the vendors this proposed limit would be fine, but that is impractical. I would have to restock my vendors everyday. It would take all the fun I get out of being a crafter.
I am a true crafter, I have mastered 3 professions since launch day. Artisan, Architect and Merchant. Nojedi grinding here. This is where I get my enjoyment from the game. Ihave never advertised. I don't run around screwing up peoples chat with spam. I simply enjoymaking things and providing a good selection of the available items I haveto build.Anything less than about 600 items per vendor without an increase in the number of vendors you can have would cripple my business and ruin my enjoyment.
Now I ask you. How does that improve upon the game? Noone gets to buy my wares. I don't get to have fun buildingthings. I see no improvement by an item limit like 110 per vendor for master merchants.

yeah this is way to liimiting.. i can understand the point of a limit to how many items a vendor can have on it.. but this is just plain stupid.. 50 items? what would be the point of that.. and at master merchant you could have a whole 660 items on your vendors? woopie.. lets see how long would it take me to make 660 items to sell? not very long...
this is probably the worst idea i've heard about so far... and is already taking some of the fun out of the game for me, just thinking that i'm soon going to lose the ability to stock my merchants any further..

*AcidicPlague* "Though you guys are busy, do you play your own game when you get the chance?"
We do
I and about 8-10 of the dev team play the game more than 20 hours a week. There is roughly another 10 or so team members that play at least 10 hours a week. On top of that, all the programmers and designers play together on live servers at least 4 hours every two weeks. Then there is the Jump to Lightspeed. It is very fun and playable right now and almost everyone on the team plays JtL a lot.

It is obvious that the devs have no fricken clue how the crafting system and player economy in the game works.
Maybe some of the 20 hour a week devs should try to run a successful business in the game and see how all the restrictions help making the game 'fun' for a crafter.

I am one of the higher producing Armorsmiths on intrepid. I make hunderds of suits at a time.
Im getting ready to launce a 1k+ suit run and how the heck can i do my vendors properly with this nerf???
Im makeing lots of composite, which has 9 peices
Padded, 9 peices
Ubese 7 peices
PSG's,
Repair tools
Components
Im currently 4/0/4/4 merchant and i had to TOTALY give up a combat class to devote to putting down new vendors and getting them all ready for the big BOOM of armor. Thank god i have a jedi or i would have to buy a second account just to have a combat person to play this game not work for the game!!!
This is some hard core numbers to show this is the most STUPID NERF for merchants!!!
Why should I have to restock 2 times a day to keep up!!!
Composite (unsliced 1 vendor) Total items to be placed is 2,750 items
Line 1, 26% stun 70% base, 200 suits in the works
125 suits to be put in packs for full suits, while the other 75 suits to be placed as singles (75X9= 675)
So for line one there is 750 spaces
Line 280% kinetic 80% energy 70% base, 200 suits
same set up, 750 peices
Line 3 80% kinetic 58% base low ham 100 suits
50 suits in packs 50 suits in singles (50X9=450)
500 peices
Line 4 40% Stun 66% base 200 suits
* See line 1 for details* 750 peices
Vendor #2 padded, and ubese, total 350 items
Line 5 80% kinetic 50% base Adv padded 100 suits
all 100 in full suits
Line 6 78% kinetic 30% base ADV. Ubese 100 suits
75 full suits 25 singles (25X7=175)
250 peices
Vendor #3, PSG, and toolsvendor, total 496 peices
Line 7 64% energy PSG's 330 PSG's
30 singles,20 crates of 5, 10 crates of 10,5 crates of 20
65 Peices
Line 8 47% Base PVP PSG's 330 PSG's
30 singles, 20 crates of 5, 10 crates of 10, 5 crates of 20
65 Peices
Line 9 100% repair tools
50 singles, 10 crates of 5, 10 crates of 10, 5 crates of 25
325 peices
Line 10 AUK's
40 crates of 25
40 items
Grand total of 3596 items of Armorsmith sellable items on my 3 vendors
There is no way i can keep stock for more then a day of 1 item if this nerf goes though NO WAY!!!
I Also have some Weapons smith guildmates with well over 1k ranged weapons alone on there vendor!!!
How the heck are the bigger producers be able to play this game other then to log in stock till your full, hang around for a few things to sell, then replace it.
I also faild to say that in the list above does not inclued wookie armor, which im gathering for as we speak, thats another vendor and at least 100 suits of that... I mean come on, what am i ment to do, stand in my tent with crates of armor and sell them in trade windows????
Stupid is as stupid does!!! All I know my vendors will be packed to the gills before patch 10, if this nerf goes live..
Oh wait, didnt they try to do this to us before????? didnt we shut them dont then too????? There morons to think this, oh dont forget about those big resource vendors, first of all all they can sell in max 100k stacks, and they get millions of units a week, i mean COME ON!!! think Mcfly think!!!
From a fellow Intrepider, I can say the same thing as Jzeus
This will detroy Intrepids economy the most, because we have insanely large Player Events, (ie Groovefest) with hundreds of vendors and thousands of items. Groovefest is a cornerstone of our Galaxies economy, and if this nerf goes Live, it will be destroyed.

My medical supplyshop is of only average volume and foot traffic. I usually play 2-3 days then 4-5 off. With this nerf my vendors will go empty in 2 days and sit empty....I lose my customers. I had planned dropping merchant then doc in a couple months in favor of comabt profesions. I think my change is going to happen sooner now.
I couldnt imagine being an armorsmith who needs to have 8 or 9 pieces for each set and type of armor they sell.
