Thread: Best Designed Shops

I got inspired by all of you who have shown pictures of their shops. I've really enjoyed looking at all the wonderful stores that are out there. So, I decided to take some pictures of my (Avara's)small little tailoring shop. It's a small Corellian house so I couldn't do everything I wanted to do with it (i.e. I couldn't decorate with view screens on the counters because we can't utilize the z-axis yet ...oh, well). But I did the best I could with the limited space and limited ways to decorate.

One thing I really wish, is someday we get a light source that doesn't smoke and gives off natural light. The torches really bug me, but they are desperately needed in the dark Corellian/Generic homes.

Anyway, enough blabbing from me. You can check out the pictures at : http://swg.atomicspacekitty.com/threads

Lovely shop Avara! For a Corellian home you made the best of the space and layout really well!

Oh that reminds me, I should take new pics of my shop since I decided to redo the entire thing. *hehe*

Yeah, that only took maybe 5 hours of my day!

Thought I would bump this up and ask for some assistance for my shop. Im opening up a bar on tatooine to hawk my drinks Now I have two main problems with the decoration: Im sodding useless at interior design(I really only like monochrome designs, hehe), and I havent seen any other shops that emulate the idea I have, so Ive got nothing to base any ideas on.

Im looking for a dirty, scruffy, low down hive of villany feel to my bar. The problem I see is all the good decorations are plants or fancy furniture, which is not the look Im after. Ill be starting off in a small tatooine house, so that also severly limits what I can pull off, and even if I move up to a medium, I can only decorate the walls in one room because of the stupid boundary thing where the archways count as a wall

I have a few questions, as Ive had a handful of ideas. First off, can architects/artisans make bazaar-like terminals(the red ones that you can have as vendors) as they can with the black rounded ones and explorer mission terminals? As they would make an excellent pub gambling machine.

Secondly, Ive seen a few of the house structure componants that would fit my look well, how much should I be willing to pay for these sorts of items(shelving and the like), Ive no idea how much resources etc they take, and dont want to be ripped off.

Thirdly, does anyone have any suggestions about how to make a fireplace that fits with the dirty, scruffy feel I want for the bar? That granite-esqe one shown further up the thread is the business, but its not the look im after, too posh

Any other general suggestions are welcome, and Id be willing to stand anyone who could help out in person on my server(even if its just a newb character so we can talk, hehe) a few drinks in the finished bar, but I want this to be a good roleplay location as well as just a place to make money, so it has too look really good. Any help is much appreciated.

Come check out Penumbra Mall. We have been working hard on the layout and design of the mall. Our food court is something to check out also. We are on Dantooine, right across from our shuttle port.

BTW - We are on the Eclipse Server

Sorry, tired. Should of explained my lay out.

I sell resources and some components such as walls and modules. But I figured as a mining company, having the fire pit would give to the feeling of a smelting shop or such.

I did not flood the shop with lights as I didn't want to actually have a brightly lit room, so the flickering from the fire adds to the effect. And I uniformed all my vendors in the same style of outfit.

The Vendor: Yellow Pages is a vendor with armor shards on it individually titled with alot of my customers names and the location to their shops. In the details area of the shard it will have the info on their shop, what they sell, and any specials if they have some.

That's it.

Jaxx, thats bloody nice work mate. Can I ask, what did you use to make those counters? I recognise the couches you used, and the armourshards, but what are the brown tops made out of?(also, do you mind if I pinch the idea for my bar? they are the best looking counters Ive seen so far )

Also, what kind of structural componants did you use? Im assuming thats what the stacks in the corners are(the ones that dont look like resource containers).

I used toolchests and lined them up back to back with the drawers inside the one next to it. And the crates are just various things, weapon power ups, spice power ups, etc. It tooks a crap load of time to get the chests to be perfectly aligned, I tell you. LOL

Hello all, I am presently not a merchant or even an artisan, but I am planning on picking it up this week. I run a museum on Scylla on Tatooine in Mos Alianza. I have been decorating it for about 1 week now since I can't get for very long. It should be open next week, but I just wanted to suggest you all to check it out and I may get pics up soon, but I also wanted to provide some more tips that I have used for making an interesting setting.

Aquarium, these were very popular on my servera few months ago but have gone out of favor. Still, since I am running a museum I figured this is a must. I used a Fountain in the main room of a large tat house and placed it so that it is at the same level as the balcony inside. I then used unlocked containers to make round columns for the corners and then another fountian placed on the floor to create more water effects. The fountain provides the look, sound, and feel of water. I then added blue street lamps to add color and of course fish and plants at various levels to give some life to it.

The back 2 rooms are also decorated, each with its own large display and then other small ones. I used armor crates and artifact stands, they look great and have a good looking emblem on the front. Other crates also work well.

Always accepting new donations to the museum.

Recently moved to a new location; redesing in decorating in progress. Keeping the fireplace, but otherwise an all new layout, with the new streetlamps for lighting effects, statuary and quest loot displays mingled in with fashion displays that will be rotated weekly so there is always something new to see each time a customer visits. Will post images as soon as I'm done setting up.

I have a request for suggestions though...

Our city just set up a merchant tent bazaar beside our shuttleport and they would likeall city crafters to move their vendors to the tents. I am unsure yet that I wish to do this, as Tailor business relies so heavily on the customerbeing able to see what is available, to get ideas for ensembles, and to see the colors they can choose as well.

If my vendors are not in my shop where my displays are, and tent space is shared with other's vendors so no space is left for even one or two displays in there... how then do I draw them to my shop or to mail a custom order, instead of the typical reaction of: "Don't see it on this vendor, move on to the next one." The average vendor shopping customer doesnot usually take the time to custom order pieces to finish an outfit, or go to the tailor's main shop if a complete outfit or particular item they wanted was not on that vendor.

So? Re the title of this thread. "Best Designed Shops" Decorating and function. What brings someone to come see your house and maybe to shop while they are there? What sorts of functional decorating ideas have some of you used to draw traffic to your shop? Cantina room? Fight Clubs? Collections of rare and unusual items? Creativecombining of items to create something new? (Like the Christmas trees and Aquariums... and fireplaces.)

I operate a resource shop on Tatooine, Chilastra. I tried to give it the look and feel of that kind of shop.

Outside - You can see where the name of the shop came from.

Backroom - A nice back room for waiting and harvester repairs.

Main Room - I spread out various types of resources, added a binary load lifter to help with orders, and added a couple "customer" vendors to make the shop look alive. There are a few resources in the hallway leading to the main room as well.

I thought the small generic I used gave the best feel for a storefront to a large mining business. Somewhat spartan, but with an industrial feel.

For the curious, it's located at -2600,1000 Tatooine, Chilastra (just outside of Mos Espa).

You can contact me on Chimaera if you like and we can talk.

My characters name is Ipock.

I'm relatively new at the game, but I'm a quick learner.

Been checking all these pics out and experimenting with pieces-parts putting things together in my house.

Trying to collect one of every item and component that could be used for building and decorating.

I need more room!

Alot of the tool chests look dirty and worn.

There are short ones that could be used as simple square tables.

And there are some short cabinets that could also be used.

The structural units are good for many things, but kind of short.

Thereare woodencafe tables and wooden chairs for the rustic look.

Drop me a note and let me know what you're looking for.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."
