once again not a programmer but it would seem that if the database was only tracking the LOCATION and not having to keep up with millions of dates the database would be smaller.

By simply removing time limits they would reduce some of the strain on the database

Specifically replying to the comment that we are all taking a one dimenssional view of this nerf and not considering that we would still have 150x6 at master...from my post on the main discussion topic:

Just to further show why 150 would be HORRIBLE:

Location 1 South Coronet:

Vendor Archi'Tect - 500+ items, including; furniture of all types and deeds

Vendor Artis'Anne - 500+ items, including; repair tools, powerups, backpacks, subcomponents, creature habitats, light clothing and light weapons

Vendor City'Zen - 300+ items, including; statues, fountains, streetlamps and city deeds

Vendor Resource Outlet - 100-300 items, including large and small stacks of various resources.

Vendor Whispering's Wares - 100-200 items, including stims, pet stims and vitality packs.

Location 2 South Theed/Suburbia:

Vendor Interior Visions - 600+ items, including; furniture, city items and repair tools.

Now....I ask you thunderheart or anyone else....WHAT-EXACTLY am I supposed to do after these proposed garbage changes??? Go play another game would be my bet...

Also realize that the current inventory is VERY low for me due to moving home to LA during the holidays. My normal inventory is nearly double these figures.

(((Oishii Sou'Na))) - Scylla, Silver Bay, Naboo, SS Ace
(((LAkers Pwn))) - Tempest, CorSec Master Pilot
Furnishings, city items, art, p-ups, best repair tools & more!
Lakers Pro Shop & City Tent, S. Coronet, -410/-5480Interior Visions, S. Theed, -5275/3355
(((Goki Buri))) - Chilastra, South Coronet, Havoc 2/2/1/1

IThe database limitations are caused by horrible coding and very poor planning. The head of this department should be summarily fired. And a complete overhaul of the department should be done. Contrary to the belief of the devs, it is NOT impossible to build a scalable database. We work in a company where our DB needs to be able to accomodate manipulation of millions of terms.

like i said.....and from the research i have done Koster had the same problems with UO before release. So the same team has done the same thing on 2 different game.

If you look at some of the problems that have and stil exist, it All goes back to sloppy programming. Mismatched arcitect shematics, schematics that dont load, and the ongoing problem with necklaces not displaying.

I believe they could fix the problem though...but from my experience it would require many things in the game to go poof. do you think we could live with that if thet said that on Monday morning the Bazaar and all vendors and houses would poof to accomadate the fix?

We players are very ingenious people. We will find a way to overcome.

You think the "Holo Trade on Server X for Server Y" or "Will Trade Lots" posts were prevalent?

Just wait until people figure out they can "cross server" level Merchants up.

I can see it now - Sample message follows:

Subj: Will Setup Master Merchant on Naritus for Master Merchant on Eclipse

Need vendors? I have an ALT character on Naritus. I will spend time leveling him up to Master Merchant and place vendors in return for you doing the same on Eclipse.

I will log in weekly to accept any offers of your crafted goods and place them up for sale. Any monies received from that week's transactions will be bank tipped to you at the same time.

You would agree to do the same.

If both parties agree, we could conduct the Vendor maintenance activities on a more frequent basis.

I wish the DEV's would get the point - no "temporary nerf" is going to fix the database problem. We will just find another way....

Vendor 1: Pants and Shorts

Vendor 2: Dresses and Skirts

Vendor 3: Shirts

Vendor 4: Dusters and Vests

Vendor 5: Gloves, Sashes & Miscellaneous

Vendor 6: Wookie Wear

I see the dilemna here. A Master Tailor would have to be a Master Merchant as well to do his\her business any justice, or have a Master Merchant work with him/her alone. Even if they get the "sell from stack" feature added, such a change would cause the Tailors to have adifficult time meeting the picky tastes of their customers.

Yeah, the stack thing would be of limited (though not unwelcome) use to us. I'd mainly use it for 'staples' like black Uniform Boots, gloves, a few other things.

lol ....yes and our work arounds usually cause more problems for their database in the long run...

using X--server vendor trades i could go from having 4 vendors that im happy with to having 12.
