I'm sure you remember that deal on Gorath were a guy bought a pack labeled Ackley PH (stats) - For (person) and it was on the vendor for 10m. A guy not named (person) bought it, and there was a single unit of a grind resource in it. He made a big stink and got his guild to back him, but he got laughed off of the boards.

Show us the thread,I could use a good laugh.

Don't give them the money back, especially since they havn't contacted you, they are no doubt angry, but perhaps have learned the lesson the hard way.

There's a tailor on my server who does her special orders that way, leaves them in a backpack marked with a persons name, but not whats in it. It works well, but thereis always the chance of griefers showing themselves.

There are people who does not like that you place their orders into a vendor for this reason: unwanted buyers. I have a method for deliverying my stuff to these people not involving a vendor, but I have the advantage of multiple accounts / lots.

I have a small house with 0 items devoted to this system. This house is private. I send an email to the customer with the invoice and the final amount. I receive a bank tip from the buyer and immediately I give him admin in that house and send him coords. He can then enter and pick up his order. Once the order is retrieved this buyer is removed from admin list, and the house is ready for the next one

Pros: absolutely safe method.

Contras: bank tip and 5% comission paid by customer. But sometimes customers rather pay this for the safety of the transaction

I used to have a special orders vendor. It had a big shiny backpack which said WARNING: DO NOT BUY SPECIAL ORDERS THAT DO NOT BELONG TO YOU. In the description it said that the person would be banned if that person bought a special order pack, and the money would not be refunded.

Well I had about five decoy packs up, with names I had invented. In fact, at that point, there were no real packs up because their owners had come to collect them. One idiot bought two decoy packs. He never contacted me. I promptly banned him from my shop. To buy one pack, and realize it's junk, and then to try again? Moron!

I love this idea so much I stole it.

Of course, being mean, I put a series of dice inside the pack with names changed to taunt the buyer.

2nd option is best without a doubt; if you return 'em the money, they won't learn the leasson.

and drop another decoy bag

I use a special orders vendor as well - in a seperate room in my shop. I have never had anyone buy an order that was not for them - tho I have questioned several and found they were alts of the customer.
I keep a couple packs of rug threads and such on them to keep the vendor open between orders, but I like the decoy pack idea too.
Now I did have a random person buy 28 clasps and heavy duty leathers off my component storage vendor (not listed, in my workroom, out of the way), but since I had them a bit overpriced anyway and I am swimming in the things, I didn't worry too much.

Oh, and 2x my advertising sash was bought off the bazaar for 6K (pink ones even), but not by the same person. The 3rd one, yellow, never sold. LOL

I don't maintain a special orders vendor. I set up a vendor special for each customer's custom order (if it's large enough). I place this vendor in my house (on a god-forsaken corner of Rori), rather than in my Bestine-ring merchant tent to add some security. The advantages of this are that NOBODY ever visits this town, so it is unlikely some griefer will venture out this far. Also, I am able to set up a special deliver message for my special customers. Once the order is picked up, I fire the vendor (I mean down-size him) and I don't have to spend maintenance on him.

oooh, I'm so excited, someone bought my first decoy pack yesterday! it was only 5k, but hey

I simply label the vendor "custom orders", and the packs "_____'s order". no warning message, no nothing... not my fault
