Thread: Vanishing Vendors or Vendor Items

My apologies if true; when you brought up server boundaries I chipped in - because I got a CSR response on this that that was probably what my problem was, so I thought it might relate to yours. If mine is an old problem, is there a known work-around for it?

I think this is a different issue. Has anyone heard ANYONE who wasn't at Business III or IV having trouble with terminals or droids with this initialization issue?
No no..It isn't an old problem. I just surfaced this week but it is different than the vendors disappearing. I didn't mean to imply it wasn't a problem or anything like that. It is just a different issue. I'm trying to help nail down that one too though. The theory I have heard is that it is related toterminals inside cities. You certainly fit that.

This morning I put 10 Armor Upgrade Kits on my vendor at Wanderhome. The one named "Eboh's Armor and Related." NO errors, they accepted with no problem. Except they never showed up. At all. They're still not there, hours later. This vendor is on the planetary map and there are 2 other vendors of mine nearby and a few from other players.
I don't know if they show up after server reset because they did not reboot the servers this morning.
They did reboot the servers this morning. I was kicked off Starsider while they did it. Doesn't take very long when it is just a restart. They were all back up before 8am

I've read somewhere that duplicate names in the same structure can cause one of the vendors to stop working. Removing the duplicate named vendor will cause the other vendor to work again...I know that was here on the merchant forum somewhere but I don't remember who posted it.
I tried this for 2 days and didn't seem to have any problems (two vendors named 'SunDance Fusion' in the same house). I even made them both twi'lek females...just 'cause. Anyway, I didn't have any issues.
This morning after reboot, they're all gone again. I grabbed about 5 or 6 fresh AUKs (and I really mean crate of AUKs in both messages in this thread) and just put them on. But they never made it. The item posts, I see the vendor screen do a "refresh" but they never show up.
I had another very sad issue yesterday. I forgot after crafting that I had not stored all my crates in my BH pack. Unfortunately I can't craft with crates in my pack, I get some sort of invalid server error, so I put them in my pack and then pull them right out again. Anyway, I forgot to restore the crates back into my pack. I pulled out 23 items - a set of padded armor and 3 or 4 pieces of advanced chitin. I only got about 9 items. The rest vanished off my vendor and never appeared in my pack. That was a beautiful set of red/gold padded armor that I lost - about 55K worth. Apparently there is no appropriate item count check if you use the shift-click method of selecting multiple items on a vendor.

After re-reading this section of my message, I realize it's not very clear. I can't seem to edit an already posted message. What I am describing is when my pack only has 8 slots open. I intend to redeed my vendor because he's just too ugly and I want to rename him. I shift-select 23 items. I hit withrdaw sale. Then I go to stockroom and shift-select and hit "retrieve." At this point I only get the 8 items that are available in my pack. The other 15 or so disappear for good. I was hoping the morning reboot would fix , but the items have vanished for good. There is no item count check when using shift-click on vendor to retrieve stock.

Eboh, those items won't be returning. When you retrieve more items from your vendor than you have inventory space for, the excess items are deleted. Permanently. Many people have complained, but this is a feature that is supposedly working as intended. Bah.

WORKING AS INTENDED? You cannot be serious. No error message nothing? You can't be serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I"m not sure who told SofaChair it was as intended. It isn't working the way any sane person would consider intended so we'll just keep mentioning it to the devs until they give us a reason that it is intentional or give us an idea of when they can fix it.

I'm just repeating what others have posted in these forums that they were told by CSRs when they complained about this issue. Just like it's working as intended that items are deleted out of the stockroom after 24/36/72 hours, or whatever the time limit seems to be this week. *shrug* It's baloney, but that's Customer Services' line so they don't have to offer compensation to anyone who loses merchandise this way.
Oh..well that is a separate issue from what we were talking about which is a bug in the new retrieve code. Whne you retrieve an item and your inventory is full or some other error occurs the item can be retieved but not placed in your inventory...which means it vanishes
There was a post from someone about the current retreive issue. The CSRs response was that it "functions as designed" which I have learned is a developers response (in my company) for when the software does something that makes no logical sense. This is ussually due to a communication problem with the users/customer and the developer. On or both does not live in reality.
On a note about CSRs. They are not given free accounts. They only play they game if they choose to on their time and buck. The one I talked with was honest to say that I know more about my profession than he did. Actually it was a great experience.
"It functions as designed" is usually technospeak for either:
A) Why would you do that? Don't do that and it won't be a problem.
or
B) I TOLD them that would happen but the designers never listen to me.
