Thread: Creative Solutions to Dropping Merchant Skills

4)****MY biggest concern**** - How will SOE handle any changes? Lots of the master merchants on the rag want to see people lose their vendors and all the items OVERNIGHT. What, with no warning? That's frickin lame. Cue master merchants! "But they shouldn't have been using the exploit!!!! I feel sooo cheated! Life is unfair!" Stop crying, now. Here's an easy solution. Let the vendor remain, but be unaccessible for purchases. People can then have a chance to clear out their items, and remove the useless vendor, OR they can regain merchant skills and have a useful merchant. I can almost guarantee there will be no IMMEDIATE out of the blue changes like that. They'd have a riot on their hands.

This has been my proposal from the first time we ever talked about it. Every request we have ever made has included language that would prevent item loss. I don't think many people seriously advocate such a system. I think most of the time they are exaggerating for effect when they say such things. In any event it is obvious from past experiences that SOE would knot knowingly set up a system that would delete player items like that without warning and a time frame to react to protect yourself.

But how can you be sure everyone is aware that it is a bug/exploit to begin with? Since only a small percentage of the playerbase reads the forums in any sort of regular respect, can we be so sure that every single merchant 'stealer' knows that what they are doing is not a game intended feature?

Its been almost a year now that the game is live, to punish the customer for playing the game as it is percieved to be intended is not very healthy for SWG's survival. At least a warning to players that their vendors are going to decay in a week or two and they needed to either get their skill back or clean them out to stop it would be the bare minimum to keep the CSRs from going mad from the backlash.

Then they need to get it in their pea-brain nowwhat they should have thenwhen they dropped the skills in the first place; To drop skill points in a profession means that the skills should not be used anymore. Are you telling me that there are so many people out there playing this game that are that dense? I think its more like selfish.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that what limited advantages Merchants had can be exploited by anyone willing to temporarily spend some coveted skill points to get the goods. I often talk about this to people outside the game about this exploit. You know what their replies are every time? EVERY TIME??!!"Damn , that's a **edit**ty thing to do to a merchant." Why the hell aren't players saying the same thing?!

I'll grant this. Although SOE has been very vocal about this point on the boards here, they really missed the boat in communicating the same things on the in-game messaging. They have a splash screen everytime the game loads that lasts at least 1 minute. Plenty of times to give out warnings about the exploits of the day.

The best solution I've heard or thought of would be the you drop the skills, the vendor remains as long as there is maintence....BUT....you can't ADD anything to the vendor. No offers. No new sales. No new maintence. No new clothes. No new locations. Whatever is on there can be bought. Whatever HAS been offered can be bought by you and removed. That is it. Until the vendor runs out of maintence.

I agree with all of this except for the highlight. If the player doesn't have enough merchant skills to support ALL of his vendors, then those vendors should cease to function and vendors. ie, the vendor will no longer sell items to the public.

The 30 day item timeout and the 7 day stockroom 'sweep' will work nicely in clearing out the vendor's inventory. If the player hasn't pulled everything out in 37 days, then those items will be destroyed for him.

Actually I left the buying on there to help expidite the process. The thing is, while people can buy stuff (which is my way of offering SOME compromise) the amount of money he'll make is limited, and once everything cycles into the stockroom he can only pull it off the shelf, not RE-sell it, as nothing can be ADDED to the vendor.

Then let me be the first to say it. For payment to all the Merchants that were griefed by everyonestealing skill points from our profession and getting fat wallets out of it, let it be known that I advocate vendors that are not supported by skill pointsgoing poof the instant the code is fixed. No grace period.

It is their scummy and ruinious attitudes to this profession that has killled this profession off. To them I say you reap what you sow. A fitting end to all exploiters.
