Thread: Strange little vendor bug I haven't seen mentioned before

Yes, it's one of the weirder bugs I've seen. Before I noticed they corrected themselves, I was going thru the inventory headaches.

I have not paid close enough attention to a pattern when they correct themselves, might be server reboots, might not be. This is largely because I would go off and do something and then notice hours later or the next daythatthey werefixed.

I have not had any of the emails NOT correct themselves yet as long as I wait long enough. However, I did once forward a few bugged emails to myself (for categorization purposes) and delete the originals - and those did not correct themselves. Need to stick with the originals.

Also, I believe for me it does not matter if an item is new or been there for a few days, it can still happen. Tho it is difficult to say because I have 1k+ items on my vendors and it's nearly impossible toremember which ones are new.

Sounds to me tho that the emails, the originals anyway, are dynamically generated and not static. Definately not your average email system. Perhaps it has something to do with the relationship of the "Variation of:" product attribute and the actual customized name (code sometimes confuses the two fields in the database).

This happens a lot with Backpacks since the buyer can rename it. I'll sell some backpacks and I'll log in and have emails about selling said backpacks but they have been renamed by the time I log in so I'll get strange emails like "Bag Of Worthles Chit has been sold to..." One time the person just named the backpack a persons name so I got an email saying I sold someone to someone else.. Bob has been sold to Steve.

Tis a strange thing.

Hmm, I'm also now curious as to whether this "dynamically generated e-mail" design might in general be a big contributor to the game's supposed database problems. Offhand, it strikes me as an awful way to do an e-mail system with no particular benefit that I can see.
