Thread: Vanishing Vendor Items: A Theory

Happened to me as well more or less excactly after 14 days, I guess weapons worth about 1M just went poof...and I guess the helpfull CSR who will contact me *soon* will tell me something about "works as intended", "it doesn't show in out logs" etc...

Slowly I am getting pretty upset because I cannot play my character the way I want it - as a merchant, getting rich - because their always is some new bug that destroys my fun. I lost items when they just were deleted after 7 days in stockroom...well i took care...lost about 2M of weapons when the items were deleted after 3 days, which was working as intended...well i stoped selling anything until the great 30 day patch...oh and of course I forgot to mention the blast I had when customer went crazy because their new bought weapon vanished just after leaving my shop...

I know I shouldn't just complain here, but slowly I am getting really depressed because I have the feeling that the code of this game is not really "clean", prolly things are very tightly woven together so whenever they change something they put another bug into the game somewhere...or the programmers are just completly stupid, but I really don't think so (hey, but that could be helped - but a messy code, well I fear the worst for the future).

Yes, this theory is very likely correct.

This is going to cost merchants billions of credits in time and inventory.

There is no warning at all and if you run a large shop you can't remember what is new and what is old. This is the biggest, most damagingbug in the history of merchants.

If you have things in your stockroom, they disappear in 2 days - they don't want you using the stockroom as storage.

The bug we are worried about here is that items on your vendor for SALE disappear in 14 days without any notification. So if your stim doesn't sell in 14 days, it goes POOF! If you added these stims on patch day, then they are going to start to disappear now unless you remove them.

Frankly, I'm going to pull ALL my stock off every 10 days and restock it until this bug goes away or until my inventory is gone. I'm getting rather tired of this, and I'd looked forward to coasting along with short check-ups on my vendor for a couple of weeks so that I could accomplish holiday-based things. Ah, well.

My second store is definitely going away, too, since not only is there this bug, but also some sort of advertising bug. Why have a store on another planet if you (a) can't get there every day to reset vendors and (b) don't have time to go there and restock everything before 30 days (or even 14).

We shouldn't hear the "this is working as intended" response since this clearly isn't. I think the less-than-30 thing is just a problem that arose when someone forgot that they needed to adjust the code regarding item evaporation. Hopefully they'll go in and make this a priority fix.

Well, I'm glad someone pointed me to this forum. It means I'm not alone in my predicament. Still disapointed but not alone.

Thanks for the input Eutock. Just to add confirmation. My vendor was made right after the patch and filled up to take advantage of the 30-day timer. It was just this past weekend that they vanished (sometime then, I was out of town for Thanksgiving but was finally able to check on Saturday evening). No email. No money. No stock. I guess on the fortunate side, it was only batteries... well, crates and crates and crates of batteries

This game makes me sick to my stomach. Once again I am going to get bitten for keeping a well stocked vendor. A vendor set up to provide the best possible service to players. What do I get for me and my girlfriends hard work? Kicked in the gut by a development team that does not properly prioritize bugs. A team that allows relatively minor issues to bubble to the top simply because they affect the most players directly.

Well this bug does not directly affect most players, but for those players it does affect it hits them like a blow to the gut. This bug (and other vendor poof bugs) needs to get top priority not because of the number of players effected, but because of the direct impact it has on the minority that are hurt, and hurt badly.

You made a game based on the backs of hard working players keeping the economy going and they you break their back by allowing bugs to persist that cost them untold hours of effort....

The developers should apologize to merchants and crafters for the pain they have caused and fix this bug now. Inventory deletions, vendors or otherwise, this far into release is completely unacceptable for any MMOG of quality.

This problem also underscores the dicotomy that is SWG. On the one hand this is the deepest and richest game world ever made and it continues to amaze me. On the other I am discouraged daily by these game breaking issues that seem to get shoved under the rug.

Don't fix this bug for the SWG hecklers, fix this for your fans, fix this for the players that play this game because of its rich and deep crafting system unparalleled in the MMOG genre. Please, fix this...

Well, I started some noise on the SWG Discussion board... so far seems to be staying on the first page. I did receive a PM from a moderator stating they had mentioned it to the devs. Still waiting for a dev response.

/salute Eutock.. yer a genious... SOE should hire you.

I agree 100%. I try hard not to let the bugs get me down, but this one is pretty depressing. Add to that the fact that most of my resources and factory crates are stuck in a "lost" backpack in my house and now it's twice as hard for me to replace my stock.

Yup I saw your post on the main boards first Cinderr, thank you for posting it and getting the issue front and center.

We had thought something was up when we lost a dozen or so weapons but when you try to keep a stocked vendor with dozens or hundreds of items and with emails being as unreliable as they are a few inconsistencies can go unnoticed.

We had already gotten bitten with the 2 day stockroom "feature" and lost hundreds of items under the old 7 day system. Getting hit again is a crushing blow to two people who are passionate about this game but are getting tired of carrying the burden of these bugs.

I mean this is not some "I cannot finish quest X" bug, this is potentially weeks of effort that is getting flung into the ether. It is exactly like players today having their inventories deleted.

I hate to ruin the devs post long weekend high, but I sure hope a team is looking into this.

In the mean time it looks like a late night for vendor management.

Does anyone have ANY items that they can verify survived the 14 day mark having been placed after the last patch?

I checked mine today and they are at 18 days which means I think I have 2 days to go before they will vanish. I am leaving them on there to see if I can get them to vanish. (No I am NOT suggesting any of you do that I am doing it in the name of tracking down the problem)
