Thread: Stockroom Items Expire?

Its not in the new user guide portion of the Holocron. It is in the knowledge base. If you search on Stockroom you will see a thread called: "What does my stockroom do" it explains the 7 day rule in there.

I agree that it should be more obvious and I've asked them to change the notification that you get when you item expires to inform you of the 7 day limitation.

Btw, how many people search the knowledge base on a subject that seems so straight forward? How many people even know that a knowledge base exists? SOE should probably wake up and look into some of the things that are driving off their customers.

Ok, I've calmed down a bit since that last post. But, I still think SOE needs to change the auction unsuccessful email to warn players of this.

It's not like people are telling them to change the code and stop destroying items.

I for one AM asking the devs to change the code. The whole purpose of the 7 days and poof rule is bogus. All they are doing is screwing those of us who are actually using the vendor for it's intended purpose. Read my reasoning and more about this here...

I've been a merchant for almost a year now and come to these boards occasionaly. I knew there was a 14 day limit for a long time, but then they increased that time. The bigest problem is, when they changed it back to seven days, I didn't see even a whisper of it in the patch notes. This is just another exaple ofthe devs slipping in astealth nerf.

So you was using the vendor for storage? It was never designed for that, so do not complain that it back fired. I am a ex weaponsmith so I can imagine how it would be to loose all my resources. One time when I wend to my work shop it did not render, had to log out and back in to se it but I had a few moment of dread imagine all my stuff being gone.

The game was designed with limitations. You have a limited about of SP to spend, you have a limited amount of lots, and a limited amount of items you can own. If you try to abuse game mechanics to get around the games rules you risk getting burned at some point.
Like if you cross server lot trade and the other person decides to delete his character. You were caught by such a backlash, and one you could easily have avoided by listing you resources on you vendor at the same cpu as your product.
10 factories with 100 items each can hold 1000 items... more then enough for any long term storage.

Are you new? I now know that it wasn't designed for that. But, how did you originally find that out? I'd bet that someone told you or you read it here on the forums. Because I've never seen any mention of it in any official documentation. I've certainly never seen a warning that items will be destroyed. Btw, the CSR's don't deny that there is a problem that there isn't a warning that items will be destroyed. I'm not complaining that items will be destroyed anyways. I'm complaining that there is no warning in the unsuccessful sale email to this fact. I'd bet if nobody told you about it and you lost a lot of resources you would be mad too. You wouldn't believe how many people I've met since this happened that has had the same thing happen to them.

No I am not new, played since September last year first on Tarq. Started as a artisan on Chimaera when it opened, and have been a WS there until about a month ago.
Now as I said I cannot remember from where I learned about the stock room.
I did not start reading the merchant board until I noticed that I was not getting any significant amount of merchant xp despite having a vendor and modest sales. In addition, the people I play with had not run vendors before, so being told in game is not an option either.
I thought I might have leaned it from the tool tips (you know the little box in the upper right corner of every window) but I just checked today and it says nothing. Perhaps it was a logical assumption, based on how the bazaar works, I really cannot remember.

And to me it did sound more like you was mad about the loss of items, and the time limit in the stock room, then about not having a warning.

I would like to know where it says in the holocron that items in the stockroom will be destroyed. I couldn't find it. I also think there is a vast number of SWG players that don't even know these forums exist. Many people walk into the store and buy the game and never look on the internet for any related information. It's just funny that there are such safe guards when it comes to destroying a building or deleting your character but virtually no warning about items in the stockroom being destroyed.

I have never been in doubt about how the stock room worked. And I did not learn it here on the forum. So I must have learned it from the pop up help on the vendor interface or the manual or something like that. It to long ago that I cannot remember exactly where.
If I can find out so can anyone else, it not like have access to any special information sources.

Well, I was mad about the loss of items. But, mainly because I wasn't warned of this possibility. If I had been warned I would have accepted the loss as my own fault because I knew better. But, there is no warning. The only way I can find anything official is to do a search in the knowledge base. But, how many people look in the knowledge base about something that is as straight forward as the operation of a vendor. The term "Stockroom" implies that it is for storage and I'd be willing to bet there is a large number of people that are using it as such right now. I know I will not use it in this manner again because it's just not worth the risk. But, don't you think it is a simple matter for the dev's to add a line in the unsuccessful sale email to warn people that if they leave items in the stockroom for more than seven days it will be lost forever? I'd be willing to bet that someone could go into a file somewhere and do a simple text edit in about 5 minutes that would take care of this and if nothing else save the CSR's the headache of having to respond to tickets like mine.

Am I the only one who thinks the 'item expire' is a little buggy?

I have 2 characters on my account (2 servers) one is a merchant and runs vendors the other just sells via the bazaar (smuggler) both have had 'weird' experiences with 'item expired'

I generally log both characters in everyday (if nothing else just to check sales and restock items that have dropped off the listing) as meticulous as I am both characters have had an item (a single item, despite the fact that I list items in bulk) expire on me

Whats odd is, as I said, I list in bulk, but in both cases it was only a single item.Neither of these items generated a 'auction unsuccessful' email, neitherappeared in the stockroom (for x days) and both were subsequently deleted and the character notified.

While this didnt happen on both characters at the same time it did happen within a few days of each other (one of the characters is on a European server)

Just thought I'd mention it

You know, I have been notified of things being deleted from the stockroom that I had not seen in there. I figured I was just not paying close enough attention, but I was almost positive there had been nothing in the stockroom the day before I got the notice that the stuff was deleted.
