No pattern as far as I can tell. I name my clothes 'Reinforced jacket - Black *S*', and pretty often I get a mail saying only 'Reinforced jacket'. Relogging sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't, and it has happened on things that got sold when I was offline, things that got sold when I was online, things that just got put on the vendor or things that have been on the vendor for days... I see no pattern at all.

Half the time I get a "you have sold Fleshwrap to blah blah" which is the generic item name instead of "You have sold fleshwrap (red) to blah blah", my custom name that I typed in when crafting. Trust me, knowing what color has sold is so much more useful.
Any pattern I might be able to point me to to help nail when this happens?
I can at least confirm this bug. I have had the same happening to my tailor more often then I think I was dumb enough to forget the color and label. I see no pattern in those mails currently but it might be sensible to experiment with items freshly placed onto the vendor or bought when the merchant was in the area. Perhaps I get some more testing done on this tonight.

You know what would be nice -- one email at the end of the day or to have an option on how and what emails we recieve
Like if I prurchase an item I know im purchasing it off my vendor so I know were it is located.
Last night 2 guildies were helping me empty 6 full harvesters output and input onto a vendor I run.
I had to putchase 2/3's of the items and had ---god knows how many pages of emails.
On top of that I could not just delete them -- being a merchant that may get a request, and justbeing a new pa leader that is recruiting fast (48 hours up and 50 members).
I need less game mail....

Wow, thought it was just me, but i've had this bug several times as well. Makes restocking very difficult. Thought i was just being dizzy and forgot to the customize the name w/ my color, but it does happen fairly regularly and seemingly without a pattern. Sorry couldn't be more helpful with that, but i didn't pay it much attention because i thought it was just me.

Yeah, the e-mail will say the default name, and not the custom name, and that happens without rhyme or reason. It can be extremely offensive if you consider that I'm suddenly getting e-mails about "Hot" Pants which I don't sell - I sell "Hawt" Pants.

This would be good - a 'sales digest' style email, rather than 60 different emails. Or perhaps in addition to, or -- as Valuthorax wrote -- a choice.
The 'sales digest' email could of course be a whole lot more than just a list of items sold - could include prices, totals, totals per vendor and bazaar, etc etc etc. I know this is more 'new feature' than merchant email tweak... but seemed vaguely appropriate here.

5 stars for the sales digest idea.
OK, what I'm about to suggest has GOT to happen (and I never talk like that): When I sell something in a city with sales tax, tell me I sold it for the price NOT including tax. I can't stand having to divide the sales I see by 1.05 all the time. At the very least, give us the price without tax in parentheses or something.

Agree.
Also, I bag full suits of armor and rename the pack to describe the contents, and I can confirm that I have sold "Travel Pack"s for hundreds of thousands of credits. (At least according to the in-game emails. I know what the pack was really named by looking at the price.)
I don't see any reason why it happens, but it might be noteworthy to mention that every once in awhile when I withdraw a custom-named pack from a vendor, it will show the default "Travel Pack" in my inventory for a couple seconds before updating to the custom name I gave it.
