For the negative part though, you can bet that if merchants got something of the kind the crafter professions would complain, because after all they are the ones who use those resources.

I'm thinking a lot of them probably have merch....besides building armor or weapons in no way relates to running a business. That's what Merchant is for

I have to say, it's a good idea..

It could put alot of the resource management which goes on in game between the crafters and suppliers into the hands of merchants acting as a go between.. Sure the crafters are being hit with an inflatedprice for the goods but they wouldn't have to worry as much about finding bulk resources from reliable suppliers. Plus as a merchant, ranger, and doctor (not same servers) so I can speak from each position and say that I would enjoy each one..

Ranger - I am always looking to sell high quality avian/herb meats to the highest bidder in huge stack sizes when I go on a slaughtering session.. Being able to look up people on the terminals who wanted the resources I gathered and were willing to pay the price would be a god send. The fact that rangers and crafters work together directlyin my mind (as a ranger) wasn't anything to do with pricing, it was/is because there is nothing close tothis system in place to be utilised.. I dealt direct because without going out of my way to look for a merchant to re-sell my products, it wasn't happening. This would no doubt change if when I went to the mission terminal looking for avian I could simply check some kind of terminal close to that listing all the requests from merchants for the avian on the planet, the quota and the reward.

Doctor - Gathering up resources for advanced components which are high quality in large ammounts is a pain and planet hopping / harvestor placement is also a downer, I do have contacts and gather myself in part but would love to have the option of taking all this hastle and throwing it into the open arms of a merchant and just waiting for the resources to come in... I would pay a nice % for someone else to take the annoying parts of that away from me considering the profits which are yielded from my profession and the time saved.

Merchant - Bringing the doctor and ranger together would make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

BUT, that's just me. Only negative thing I will say is that if anyone can list the resources required from a terminal then crafters could list the cpu for all deals on that planet and then up the cpu offer and stand spamming it next to the terminal all day.. Of course, these guys would get an /addignorefrom me even if it was a better offer... But I'm not everyone, and have little need for daft ammounts of money which I can't spend on anything. Of course on the up side, people would probably check the terminals for better offers before taking up the spammers, so I suppose it's a little give and take.

The problem is that, when there is a good spawn of meat for example, how many merchants actually sell some? Mostly none, because crafters go to the rangers directly so they don't have to pay more to the merchant. The few times I have seen meat on vendors the price was 30% higher than what chefs, BEsand docs get from rangers.

I will argue that if merchants are able to gather and sell bulk animal resources off of a mission terminal, prices in general will decrease.

"why should i pay 100 cpu for 1K (X), when i can go to this merchant and get 20K (X) at 100cpu. you better lower your price if you want me to buy a small amount like that..."

By doing this idea, you place more competitors into the animal resource marketplace, which in turn will lower prices.

The crafters without Merchant would have to go about doing things the old fashioned way. This idea was mainly to increase the playability of the merchant profession. Allowing anyone to do this would simply clog the mission terminals. Allowing only merchants, cuts down on the amount of missions, and also givens merchants something very useful.
