I finally got an answerabout the untouched email. This is what [CSR Jon W] wrote:
We suspect that these emails are simple errors due to the conversion from the old system to the new. We haven't had any reports of vendors actually being deleted. What's supposed to happen, is EMPTY vendors that are untouched for two weeks are deleted. That can total to 74 days from the placement of a sale - 30 days for sale, 30 days with an occupied store room, and 14 days of inactivity. I wouldn't worry much about this, as long as the vendor is stocked you should be fine.
Sincerely,
CSR Jon W
That goes a good way to reassure me that if and when vendors with items on them are deleted, it will be a mistake, and not intended. However, it does not reassure me that it won't happen anyway.
We still need a Dev, preferably TH, or someone that is personally accountable (i.e. They havethepower to bring back deleted vendors)to state that no vendors with items on them (assuming skills/maintenance are ok) will be deleted, and that we can ignore those emails. Keep bouncing back queries until we get a rock solid assurance that the official in-game emails are officially bogus.
And thanks to all that have kept after them so far!

Hmm, no edit. Make my previous post read: "both of my TC MERCHANTS received" back most of the items the database stole.

I said I didn't know and that a literal reading of the patch notes seemed to indicate there was a flat inactivity timer. I haven't gotten any dev response on that question though I have asked three times for one. The CSR's position that it has to be empty squares with what I believed before the patch notes came out and those emails started.
True. My concern though is that the communication channel between the CSRs and the developers sometimes appears to contain less information than the communication channel between the correspondents and the developers.
Maybe I am wrong to think I've been deceived by the development team on this issue, but the fact that the emails we are getting are consistent with the literal reading of the patch notes has me suspicious that deleting a vendor if non-empty and "abandoned" is going to happen. I will continue to expect it until we get some official explanation regarding the disturbing use of the word "or" inthe patch notes as well as an explanation of the reason for these worrisome emails.

Doc, thanks for going to bat for us. I hope they answer you soon. If their answer matches the one I got from the CSR, I'd be happy.

sigh. I hope it is true. It's not what our correspondent said though so I am still worried.
Of course, the argument offered by the CSR that "we have had no reports of non-empty vendors being deleted because of this" is completely NULL and pointless. If they are going to be deleted, not enough time has passed to find out.

Please keep after them Doc. We really need the offcial word from the devs on this. I am sure that all of us here appreciate your efforts on our behalf.

I posted again today quoting that CSR response and asked for clarification on how the code works.

The 'untouched' thing is the problem that will stop this working anyway, I had in my house 4 vendors that were completely empty, I set them up and never stocked them, I set the shop name to 'closed' but I knew my friend next door always came in to poke one of them, 2 days ago 3 of the 4 were deleted by the system.
The one that remained was the one that my friend had been activating once every few days. I never recieved an email warning, just an email saying that they had been deleted.
If this system is in place to remove empty vendors from malls, its not going to work. If you have a high traffic mall, what are the chances of those vendors being untouched for 2 weeks?
IMO vendors in malls should be deleted after 2 weeks of having no stock.
Vendors belonging to the structure owner should never be deleted.

My Question would be, why would the devs delete Our vendours that we have Worked our bottoms off, whithout being able to grind...for Months on end for some, with say 4000 items maxed on 12 vendours.....
If they Truely want people to quit, they are defently headed in the right direction.
Our Alt Char is so close to master merchant. I have a max total of possibly 1000 items on 9 vendours. all paid up for about 88 days....
Now, if they are talking about deleting Untouched vendours, than they better be ready to Re-imburse Everyone for the Screw up because they can't seem to pull their heads out and get it straight.
My suggestiong to everyone is this...Take screenshots of everything you have on your vendours, the status and the amount you have paid.
Granted they claim that they "Just can not accept screenshots" is a bunch of bull-harky!!! Yes they can and they Have to.
I have had things deleted because for only 8 days Our DSL, (thanks to the stupid Telephone co. messing up and placing our Move order back to the place we were moving FROM...instead of TO...) we lost 2 houses and a whole bunch of resources, which in fact were Promptly returned to us....
Sorry, getting off track here...Take screenshots, write down in a book or in your note pad and date it with what all you have. IF this is going to be the issue of them deleteing Untouched vendours instead of EMPTY AND Untouched than WHY would Anyone want to do Merchant???
How many people are actually going to Not care if their Looted items, or their deeds and what not are deleted...I would be naffed as all hell and would have a go at the devs...(nothing new there...)
Hope they can stop caring about the size of their Wallets for awhile and Listen to the actual PAYING CUSTOMERS!!!! hmmmm whatever happened to
,,,The Customer IS ALWAYS Right????

"If you are a Politician and have placed items, and you do not personallytouch, move, enteror use them every two weeks, they will be deleted."
Try that, and see how many people get pissed off.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this whole thing isn't reasonable, and especially 2 weeks is not reasonable.
