Merchant Archive
Thread: So, what's up Doc?
What I'm getting at is this:
Suppose for the sake of argument the devs decide that the new rule is "300 items per vendor." My character can have 3 vendors due to Merchant skills, or 900 total.
Would this (by either technical necessity or designer preference) require something like:
Vendor A: 300 items max
Vendor B: 300 items max
Vendor C: 300 items max
Or would it be more of a "total cap" but a flexible one across vendors, where I could do, e.g.,
Vendor A: 800 items
Vendor B: 100 items
Vendor C: Doesn't exist because I don't want a 3rd vendor, and could not stock anything if I did create it, because A and B are fully stocked.
If there's any potential for a choice here, I'd vastly prefer the 2nd scenario (which happens to be pretty much my current vendor setup.) The limits in and of themselves are bad, but the *per vendor* limit of the first scenario adds complications on top of that. (I.e., there's not necessarily a division across 3 vendors that makes good retailing sense for me and is easy for customers to understand.)
Its a good question. I don't know for sure because they haven't shared their current vision with me my impression from the way things work now is that it would probably be a total per vendor. The reason is probbaly because it ismore difficult to check all vendors you have in the galaxy against the cap each time you put an item for sale.
I'll ask about it though. And hopefully some of those things will get answered when they post the followup to what their current plans are. These changes are now pushed out till the February publish I believe so we have a couple of weeks to try to get the pain down to as low a threshold as possible. ![]()
Great qualifying questions everyone!
My biggest question is related to the "new" vendors issues:
- Will all players have to 'recreate' vendors when the publish comes out, or will the proper caps be added to our current vendors? In other words, do I have to re-create/restock and possibly movemy 6 vendors and reorder them even if they shouldn't change, since I'm a Master Merchant prior to publish.
And questions for Doc:
- Are they looking at stacking and crate re-inegration options in terms of reducing db load? (same serial #)
- Are they looking at improving sorting/queries for the bazaar and vendors?
- Are they looking at improving the categories so that everything sorts into categories with the odd exception instead of 90% of the items in the DB being in the MISC category?
- Are they looking at the excellent ideas for bulk sales with per item sale price?
- Are they looking at the commission sales ideas?
- What are the current thoughts on thebazaar salescap as it relates to Artisan Business line and Merchant skills?
- Any news on the Hex codes coming back since all of this is about fixing the bazaar?
Someone mentioned the placement of the vendors matter, but I don't understand the qualifier there. Why should a vendor's physical location have anything to do with a technical backend?Likewise for the vendor name, renaming shouldn't be an issue, but I guess they must have made vendor name a PKey.
Just some questions while I wait for the coffee to hit the bloodstream.

Most of those ideas are in the development thread and some of them came up in the correspondant thread as well so I know they are aware of them. I will bring them up again when they bring us their new idea on how this is going to work.
As for why it matters where the vendor is.. I dunno but it does apparently. The vendor isn't just a graphical portal to a database..it is more than that..it is apparently a fairly complex system that drives them. I don't pretend to understand it but I know that things that seem simple to change aren't because of the complexities of the system.
Cool, even if the answer is:
"No way", that's still better than nothing in my opinion.
Hopefully it would be something like "We've reduced DB laod by a factor of 50 thanks to all these suggestions, but hey I'ma dreamer.

The current answer is .. .stand by. As TH Stated in the development forum post they are re-evaluating and will come up with a more detailed proposal which should take our suggestions and considerations into account. We'll see in a bit. The changes have been pushed to at least Feb though so again there is time.
I'll keep you all updated as any new information comes along.
