5-star post. Very nicely captures the problems with the game andthe flaws in the devs' proposal and offers some really great solutions.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for an excellent post.

I've been playing since launch day. I think this might just be the straw that broke this old-school camel's back.

One thing I would add is that this will be especially hard on high-turnover/lower-profit professions like chef, tailor and weaponsmith.

It will also be harder on consumers that buy the specialty items-- crafters will be forced to only stock the most popular items because they won't be able to spare space for a specialty item that might take a week or more to sell.

They've been threateningvendor limitsalmost every major patch it feels like, and I'm just plain tired of having to defend myself every time. Every time they do this, everyone gets upset. Why would they expect this to be any different? If they are tricking us into getting mad about a severe limit, only to then trot out a less-severe limit, well too bad, the damage is already done as far as I am concerned.

I currently keep stock approx 5-600 sliced weapons per week. Many weaponsmiths on my server are now stocking 1000-2000plus weapons. I don't know if they are all sliced or not, but I know it takes me at least a good day of running schems/slicing to keep stocked at 600 weapons for myself. I make everything and slice and offer and price myself. I can't bear to keep more than that posted as I usually sell approx 50 weapons per day. I don't however see myself ever going past 0004 merchant to hold my existing vendors. If I find myself unable to keep stocked on weapons, prices (already high) will go higher until I can stay resonably stocked enough not to restock every other day.

Great post, just thought I'd put in my 2c.

Uh hun? If you slice all your own stuff, you better get over to the smuggler's forum ASAP and look at what's coming.

They're gonna make it so that you have to pull all your tools out of the crate before you slice anything. Your tools will no longer autopull out of the crate.

That's a big part of why I'm dropping smuggler. I did sell sliced armor...but no way in hades I'm gonna deal with all that crap to do it.

Anything else from the Devs on the merchant nerf?

Put the crates in toolbar slots. 3 clicks and you're ready to slice.

Or keep whining.

"Anything else from the Devs on the merchant nerf?"

It was said on Stratics (not here, go figure) that this will be discussed monday.

i like your post..but honestly...your idea of making "rare" or "good" resources spawn more frequently will make the game less enjoyable. Just think how much the economy is stimulated by those "rare" resources. Not everyone is supposed to make the best armor or crafting goods...thats the way the game is intended to work, and hence..provide a self sufficient economy w/realistic variations.

and all of you should know...there are other places to store items in this game..not only on vendors.

Very well written post, some great ideas in it too.

Stacks of 500k would take care of most of thier database issues right away.

I'm thinking of dropping AS because of this, which will hurt my guild as i'm the only AS in it <shrug>

I just don't have the time or the room that crfting under this patch will require

I didn't say the rare resources should spawn every week. But waiting 6 months for a good spawn (like it was on scylla for the last AS quality alum) is rediculous. I agree that if you've paid your dues, so to speak, and put in your time, you should have an edge on new smiths.

However, the devs concerns are that Older crafters have too much of an edge on the new ones. Thus, making the rare resources shift more often would be preferable to this wretched merchant nerf and would go a lot farther towards fixing the Devs concerns.

I think that if they made the rare named resources spawn even 35% more often, it would make it easier for newbie crafters and more enjoyable for the older crafters without totally negating time invested in said crafting profession.

I think, basically, that my ideas would provide a good balance.

Thanks,

Something else that I wanted to add.

The Devs (at every turn) have given an emphatic "NO!" when we ask for increased resource stacks/crate capacities.

My thoughts on that are these:

1. I'm sure that the Devs think that the older crafters would simply stockpile so many resources that a newbcrafter could never catch up. And under the current resource situation, this is absolutely true.

HOWEVER, if the rare named resources were to shift in good qualities more often, then stockpiling would be a moot point. It would not matter if I had 3 million units of good colat iron stockpiled if it shifted in a good quality every 6 weeks. A new smith could either wait a few weeks to get some good stuff or they could probably find the stuff laying around on resource vendors if it weren't so darn rare! There would be no point to piling up resources beyond 350k or so under this type of system.

2. If the resource situation isn't changed (with the rare spawns) you're always going to have database problems and the older crafters will always rule the economy. There will always be stockpiling problems because the system intrinsically encourages and forces it to happen. Nerfing vendors is a bandaid solution that won't cover even half the wound.

I really hope the Devs will get in here and read some of this stuff. Or perhaps log into the game and ask some of the prominent crafters from each server what they think would make the economy better and why. THAT would be useful feedback.

Thanks,

lillith
