I am pretty much positive that vendor initialization date plays a factor. I have the oldest weapon vendors on chilastra, and most of my weapons are listed on the first page, always. Even if you just click "weapon" catagory a good # of them are mine. I have however decided not to adjust my pricing. I have tweaked here and there over the last few months but if my stuff doesn't sell, oh well.

Unless they change the system or newer vendors get placed by anyone. The latter won't move you up the "ranks" any, but it will add more to the list behind you.
I was going to move my vendors to a larger shop so I could free up inventory space in my workshop that is now taken up by displays. The new shop would dedicate space almost solely to showing off my wares, as well as remove any threat that my vendors might poof if SOE ever removes "dead" housing (I don't think the original owner of my shop has played in a year).
As it stands, I'll just have to risk that my entire shop and 90% of my stock might vanish with little or no warning, because changing vendors will drop me way back in the queue.
