Thread: Vendor Poaching -- What is a VIABLE Solution?

Forget for a moment that you CAN get a vendor and not keep the skills points. If you couldn't..what would you do? What choices would you make? Do you put you 100 skill points towards more scouting skills? Do you Master an Elite Combat profession? Do you dabble in combat professions so you can protect yourself but not devote all your skills to it?
If you do that excercise you will probably find that you could learn to play BE differently. There is nothing saying that you have to be able to solo rancors in combat to be a good BE..if you defeat them you get no DNA.. you do get resources that you can use but you could buy those from a Ranger or Scout.

having trouble finding a merchant? certainly if you are using the search feature. Try looking on the planetary map for people who advertise. Maybe find a partner who does have merchant and work together. Why do you need to be a master combatant anyway on this character... a few branches will get you there and you can run away.
And to clear it up, you aren't supposed to be able to do it all..and yes, dabbling is needed. I really loved the added **edit** about 'but then i'd need x skill to make backpacks'/// way to go trying to justify yourself.
The planetary map only tells you what vendors are registered, it does NOT tell you where to find a merchant nor whether the registered vendor belongs to a TRUSTWORTHY merchant who would be WILLING to work with you. It also does not tell you WHO the vendor belongs to, so you then have to go to the vendor and look at it to see who is selling the items... and 9 times out of 10, the vendor will be empty.
If you are going to read part of that post about offering packs of stuff to a vendor, may I suggest that you concentrate on the part about "WOULD YOU BUY A PACK OF 50 ITEMS THAT ARE INDIVIDUALLY PRICED AT 10K OR MORE WITHOUT ANY MEANS OF KNOWING WHETHER THOSE ITEMS ARE AS DESCRIBED?" rather than the aside about the difficulty of obtaining packs to use when the packs are unlikely to be bought in the first place.
Gosh, then you end with "you aren't supposed to be able to do it all"and "dabbling is needed." Or in other words: "Become a JACK OF ALL TRADES, MASTER OF NONE." What is "dabbling" for after all, if not to be "able to do it all?" People dabble when they DO NOT want to have to depend on others. Why is it that you (merchants) keep coming up with ideas on what I should do in order to have my own vendor instead of ones on how I can work with SOMEONE ELSE who HAS merchant?
I repeat: I FIND MERCHANT BORING AND WOULD MUCH RATHER WORK WITH A MERCHANT PLAYED BY SOMEONE ELSE THAN TO HAVE MY OWN VENDOR(S). (Maybe if I say this oftenenough it will sink into your thick skull.)

if there were a VIABLE means of selling through a merchant, then vendor "poaching" would not happen.
If merchant is broken, it is in part because it is so HARD for a non-merchant to use one effectively.
I can't believe you wrote this. Vendor poaching happens regardless of the tools available, because simply, people can.
There is also the problem of obtaining packs... I would need Domestic Arts 4 in order to make them myself... and buying them would be another hassle.
My super sleuthing skills have solved your crime. Clearly put, you want to do everything yourself. You even whine about having to buy packs from a tailor instead of making them yourself.
You avoided the original question of what exactly are you doing with those extra 100+ points. And I believe it's because you know exactly that we will tell you to drop those extra fluff skills. Don't ask for sympathy here.

Hey @$$#*!{ Read the post befor yours
he specificly states HE DOES NOT want to do it all himself he DOES NOT want to make the Packs, he Does not want to even have a vendor what he wants is for YOU TO BE FIXED so that he can use you as you WANT to be used, in other words by flaming him you are saying WE DON'T WANT TO BE A MERCHANT we just don't want you to sell stuff, and all he is asking for is from you sugjetions on how YOUR proffesion might be fixed. You are saying, go do it yourself.
YES, YES, YES!!! Someone who GETS it! I do NOT WANT to be a MERCHANT. I want to be a BE. I want to be able to WORK WITH a merchant in order to sell my items. I do NOT WANT to have my own vendor(s). I do NOT WANT to have to do it all myself. I want the merchant profession fixed so that I can USE a merchant that is PLAYED BY SOMEONE ELSE to sell my stuff.
I came here hoping that MERCHANTS would be able to come up with ideas on how they could do this and all I got were flames and suggestions on how I should do it myself.
P.S. I am a she. ![]()
