You have no stats to support this. The market share is available to ANYONE that wishes to participate. No one player forces a market imbalance on other players for any reason. The game mechanics simply will not allow it.

I quoted this definition yesterday and am not going to quote the definition again.

Then shut up.

MaDeuce,

I think the devs do have stats to support this. TH misspoke and called the situation one of monopoly.

Do you have any stats to falsify my notion of oligopoly according to the accepted definition I have used? If not, then your assertion that they do not exist would seem at least as questionable as my assertion that they do exist. Your assertion would be contrary to other anecdotal evidence on these boards such as folks claiming they have incredibly large sales volumes and comparing that with the average server population and wear on the particular items sold.

Even IF we accept your more general definition, what exactly is the problem with having a small number of crafters holding a large majority of market share? That is what is supposed to happen in a market-driven economy. Those who produce the best value get the business.

If someone comes along who can produce similar or better value, they will earn their own piece of the market. In SW:G, the only thing delaying (NOT preventing) someone else from providing similar value might be waiting on resource spawns. What is the problem with that?

well my wifes char that a master artisan and master armorsmith will be quiting the day before Publish 10 goes live... And I am shure I will follow.... I am saddened by the fact that this game instead of fixing what needs to be fixed is worried about database space.... I have played this game cince mid March 2003 in Beta.. The game hasnt gotten better by any streach of the imagination.. they just keep adding things so ppl will not worry about the stuff that still broken and not trying to make any efforts on fixing (but they say they got all these plans to fix it) I will be going back to DAoC for plenty of reason.. the only reason it will suck is that its not Star Wars... but what are ya gonna do......

That is pure speculation. They may be doing this to control monopolies and oligopolies (no, I don't believe these exist but the devs might). They may be doing it for some other reason entirely. We just don't know.

Maybe the next time the devs bend us over, they'll give us the courtesy of a kiss (reason) first...

Joined, please offer your thoughts elsewhere & quit hijacking my thread. I am a solitary crafter. 2 accounts, aye, but Ympresive Industries is just me. Alone. Playing this game by the rules established, documented, and released for public knowledgde. And before anyone mentions things, yes, I know the EULA says the game can and will change.

I worked damned hard, and over a long period of time, to build up my business. No Jedi, no PvP, missed the GCW (when it was going on), no corvette...you get the picture? I got a hard earned reputation of being fair and well stocked on a wide variety of goods. Solo. So I personally, and many others here as well, take your comments personally & slanderously. The market probably WON'T recover if this goes live without modification. Ply a trade & see what you can do without 660 items or more on a vendor. And that's per craft. This will mean 1 Master Merchant per EACH adaquatly supported crafter. Please note the word MASTER. Your opinions are noted, and discarded as foolish, unthought, inexperienced, illogical, inflamitory, rude, nonproductive, and unsupported.

Back to my original post, I see there is a trend towards larger corporations on other servers closing...

They may but you certainly don't. Are you a Dev? If you are then you're wasting my time by being here instead of fixing this game.

TH misspoke and called the situation one of monopoly.

Exactly, he misspoke.

I don't need any. The proof is in the way the game mechanics work. Regardless of which profession you choose, you can make tons of money. Regardless of what you sell, you can find a market for it. Opportunity is available for anyone that wants to participate. You are insisting that a small of group of people has considerable influence on the game economy is rubbish.

When hologrinding became the norm, the economy switched to the grinding resource gold rush. Everyone and his dog got the means to mine and sell grinding resources. The prices were cutthroat because it was and still is to some extent flowing like water.

You want proof? I am proof that you have no clue what you are talking about. I am a master artisan, master weaponsmith, master chef, merchant 3/4/0/4. I don't advertise. I sell a wide variety of items at a wide variety of prices to a wide variety of players from a wide variety of income levels. I sell high quality brandy on the bazaar for 6k each; 4k each on my vendor ( 2k surcharge for lazy shoppers huh). I average 400k in sales alone from food. I'm not even counting weapons. I get tells and emailsfrom these "so called" oligopolists that my prices are too low and that we should discuss arrangements for price caps. One of them tried to convince me that I was ripping myself off by not charging more.

The "proof" is in the fear that any independent crafter can compete as long as he/she is willing to work for it and trim prices to be competitive. If these guys had such a stranglehold on the economy they would have never been concerned with what I was doing anyways.

If not, then your assertion that they do not exist would seem at least as questionable as my assertion that they do exist. Your assertion would be contrary to other anecdotal evidence on these boards such as folks claiming they have incredibly large sales volumes and comparing that with the average server population and wear on the particular items sold.

I am asserting that you just, plain and simple, have ZERO clue what you are talking about.

I am asserting that your propensity for the overuse of invective may impress the little boys and girls of your guild butit certainly doesn't impress me.

Well started selling off our stuff at our mall, already lost 3 merchants . I will be selling all my junk pretty soon , already sent cancellation notice on 4 of my accounts and may just keep one for JTL and see how SOE screws that up. At least I have a nice stock pile of good weapons and armor of my one combat class. So I wont have to deal with people like joined who prob makes substandard items and cant do any better. Everyone that has taken the time to gather resources to make good items are getting punished becauase we are good at what we do. *I* charge far less then many of my compeitors for armor, weapons, clothes, food , meds and droids. I use all those accounts to harvest everything I neeed. Why do I have alot of crafters? Because I enjoyed (note past tense) it now with this looming nerf , there isnt no way in hell I am going to sit there chained to my store to keep it filled. I work 40 hours a week in RL to sit down have fun and craft to see how good I can make an item , how I cna make people say WOW you got great items. It takes a true crafter to take pride in providing cheap but good equipment for people. Because I mass produce stuff makes me a bad guy? I dont think so I know of many more crafters who make alot of stuff , but for most part they make crappy stuff. Now I have choice I can store crates in my factories which has limited space so I can only store X amount of stuff. Buy more houses thus getting rid of my harvesting ability , How many people want to go run around to find that T21 or a Nabooian guild hall , or look for tons of other items they neeed.
