Merchant Tent FAQ:
Can tents be placed outside of a player city?
Yes, they can. My tent right now is just outside the perimeter (currently) of a player city. They act as a small house deed would, so they can be placed anywhere. (within reason)
Can I declare residency at my tent?
Yes. It acts like a normal house in every way EXCEPT for the fact that it always stays public.
Can you drop items in a Merchant Tent?
Yes. Right now there seems to be a display bug where items you put in 'disappear' to you and to others. But confirmed, they do reappear, so just be patient with them. As a caution though, don't place anything too valuable yet.
How many lots does it take?
1 lot. It's just short ofa 3x3 footprint, about the size of a Naboo round.
How many vendors can I place in a tent?
As many as you want, Merchant skill permitting. Any type of vendor can be placed in a tent.
It says I lack the skill to own the building. What's this mean?
Means you don't have the Merchant skill Efficiency IV, structures.
Can someone else place a tent for me and admin me to it?
Yes. Someone with Eff IV can place a tent and admin someone else to it, and they receive the same full rights as they would on a house, including the ability to drop vendors. However, keep in mind you are still renting a lot from the person with Eff IV.
What colors do tents come in?
Tents come in three colors. The default (the deed listed with no color) is a mild, wood-like brown. The grey is a soft, almost blue, grey. The green is a muted emerald. All feature the same two hanging yellow lights out front. Any color can be placed on any planet.
I'm on a mount, and the tent interior displays as red like a private house. Why?
All buildings are automatically private while riding a mount. You need to /dismount first, and then enter. Can tents be built outside player cities?
Clarifying: NO - you cannot have an eff4 merchant place a merchant tent and then /transferstructure it to someone without eff4. It will give you the same error as when a non-eff4 merchant tries to place it herself.
The three tent styles've got different foundations and patterns in addition to different colors. The green one has the Naboo cinderblock base and circular patterns on the cloth; the brown one has the Tatooine sandstone base and a leathery pattern; the greyish one has the plain Corellian metal base and red stripes on the tent walls. As Tek stated, all three can be used on all the planets, but if you want to coordinate to your surroundings...
I'm floored by these tents, and hope this is the start of a trend, in bringing more stuff like this that we can see and target in the game but not own, into the players' hands.
Maintenace is high though. I love the one i placed but it costs a lot and i cant drop a lot of items in it, i know it is less than 100 as i tried to drop 2 full backpacks in there for storage.
But they do look cool
More importantly they take onlyone lot. Small houses take two, except the Round Naboo one. Therefore, you can now place vendors in two separate locations for the same lot allowance.
They look neat, and take a smaller footprint. In combination with other merchat tents, I envision a very open market-like effect in not too broad an area.
Player houses? Odd that they're so close to the outpost. I know there's a bug with Naboo style houses not placing on Dantooine, but not aware of the Tent one yet. Possibly the same problem.

Who makes the tents?
How much maintenance do they cost?
