I am master merchant and I hate spamming, it just causes lag and you can't read it anyway.
Why not take away AFK spamming and barker droids completely and replace with a 'sign' droid that holoprojects an image of what you are selling and contains a WP?
There could be standard sign icons corresponding with vendor types on the map. It requires master merchant skills to operate so the are not 'ten a penny' around starports.
What do you think?
I think that most spammers will lose patience if they can't auto-afk or use a droid, and the chat clutter around starports would be replaced with a few droids making a lightshow.

I belive an option to toggle barker droids ( as we have for AFK players) is a better solution.
WhyI would like a sign my self to place at whatever locale,
to me it would be yet one more item people don't look at.
Most people tend to not notice anything that isnt flashing blue and red and attacking them,
Displays in shop go unoticed til you point and say 'see example here'
House signs clearly labled are inogered and tells are sent 'which house you in'
Even the occassional system message is a 'I didn't see that' notice.
My vote is for more options to ignore or filter what is ingame, before we remove or replace what we have.

I don't understand barker droids in the slightest. The devs wanted to "crack down" on AFK spammers and about the same time introduced barker droids. Not only can barker droids not be /addignored, but they allow the merchant to do something else like spam at another starport.

Did they ever do anything in any way to prevent afk playing?

No, but they were supose to take away looping macros as one fo their things. But unleashing Giant spiders in the major cities where they spam during Halloween was funny.

1, if you put the owner on ignore the droid is not heard.... Bahh this was nerfed ! ! !
2, if you put a droid slightly outta the way, or say at the bazzar it wont spam high trafic zones and generally be well excepted buy the random visitor.. they are after all shoping..
3, add droids dont spam every 5 seconds..
4, my ignore list has about 200+ spamers on it and i add new ones all the time,.,. try it its nice and quit after a month of adding names..

I dont think barker droids are that bad... Since they are limited to the amount of characters they can speak.
Now afk people spamming every 3 seconds.. is annoying..
Yes.. my ignore list is very long also

I know what you mean, my ignore list is HUGE. The only people I don't ignore for spamming is doctors that announce their buff stats. But if you are advertising a shop, selling an item, or trying to buy an item you are ignored. That's what the trade forums are for. I never thought to but the owners on ignore though, that's a good idea. My list is about to triple, hehe.

I only /addignore the people who spam too often. With a 15 second repeat time or something. Or who don't know how to work a macro and spam 572 things in the course of 2 seconds. Ignorance is no excuse to test out new spam macros in high traffic areas (or any place I am).
I don't mind spam droids though. At least it takes a high level merchant to run one. And the repeat time isn't bad. And the message lengths aren't long. I think it's a good way for merchants to be able to advertise. Let everyone else be /addignored, but let the merchants using the proper in-game mechanics be...

I really wish that they would just make any non droid ad spamming a bannable offense. Really that's the only way you'll clean up the star ports.
Then they could add a simple check box in your options to disable bark droid text.

I think a ban forstarport spamming is just a little harsh. Besides, every now and then you find something useful there.
However, I do think they should make it so you're forced AFK so that the filter is actually useful.
What's the point of filtering out the AFK chat if everyone just turns off auto-afk?
Until then, I just add anyone who spams more often than once every 60 seconds (or has an obnoxiously long message) to my ignore list.
Seriously, people... is it really necessary to list the entire contents of your vendors every 15 seconds?

Problem with removing spaming as advertising and JUST using the trade forums is only a small percentage read/use the forums. I spam in coronet every 40 seconds or so now and then and business quadruples when i do. I stopped spamming for a month and got my regulars to come by but that is about it. I tried the forums on my server, no luck as those people already know about my shop.
Not saying i like spaming, but seems to be an effective tool, until another way is found besides barker droids, to advertise to the non-forum reading majority. Now if i could call a barker droid and turn it on from a remote location on my non merchant toon, i would use them all the time. yes i am lazy.

I completely disagree with toggling droid speak. What good is the droid advertising skill when 95% of the players won't even hear them, since that check box will be auto on for them? I know many people that have used my droid to locate my conveiniently located vendors, whether or not they were actively looking for one at the time.
By all means eliminate the AFK spammers. They are a waste of space and time, but don't screw over Merchants that want utilize the maximum potential of droid they purchase thier hard earnedcredits.
