From the friday feature there are 305,890 houses in all the galaxies.

There are 388,165 vendors in all the galaxies.


No wonder so many vendors are empty with there being more than one vendor per actual person playing.

would be very interesting to know, because right about now, there is more than 1 vendor per actual player. With so many poached vendors out there, the 'masses' are relatively content. With the masses being relatively content with the status quo, there is no/little outcry to improve the profession with value added skills.


Take away those relatively satiated poachers vendors, and I expect an outcry to pour forth for needed skills. But that's just one billionaires opinion (ok.. ok.. billionaire come this xmas)

I don't know. I think so. They should be able to list the names of all vendor owners..and they should be able to tell if those names have Manage Vendor skills

Yea I asked Thunderheart again this weekend to get that number for us. I want to know the percentage of "illegal" vendors in the world.

You also need to consider in your calculations that some players have more than one vendor so I would say that (assuming there is an average of 3 vendors per 'merchant') there are perhaps 120000 people with vendors. I highly doubt there are that many merchants in game seeing as it is always a rare thing to see one - hell they are as celebrated as Jedi in some areas!

Might also consider that any one 'legit' merchant can have 6 vendors. Not to mention that I don't see anywhere on there the number of players. I seriously doubt there are 300k people playing this game. People can and do have multiple houses (usually because of storage), just like people can and do have up to 6 vendors. All has to be taken with perspective. But it is fairly interesting just how many vendors are out there. Kinda makes you wonder what SOE is going to do. They gave in to everyone wanting to be Jedi.. if enough people ask for vendors -- which it definitely looks like they would, it could be fairly bad for the future of the merchant profession.

Ok lets take the 1 house per character and the 3 vendor per merchant.
388,165 vendors / 3 vendors per player = 129,388 merchants.
305,890 houses / 1 house per chr = 305,890 characters.
129,388 merchants / 305,890 characters = 42% of the characters are merchants!

I thing we can safely assume that at least 1 in 10 of the existing vendors are illegally placed.

yes, i realize that merchants have more than 1 vendor... I just find in astounding that there are more vendors than houses in the game. I would think that vendors should come in about 20% of the total structures... of course all estimates without knowing the true population playing the game but interesting none-the-less. I base this in part on prior astromechs about who has what professions and merchant was pretty damn small then.

I don't believe that we can draw any conclusions about the number of players from this data. We all know many crafters that have multiple houses (for storage or multi-location vendors). What crafters don't see is the many pure combat players who have no house at all.


Even without knowing player data, the fact that there are more vendors than houses is shocking enough. I too would be interested in knowing how many of the owners don't have at least business-3. I would also be interested in knowing how many of these vendors are currently empty.

My three merchant characters all have 6 vendors down legally. Not saying you're estimate is totally skewed, but there are plenty like me.

There is not substantial enough evidence to draw a conclusion on how many people there are. Everyone is assuming that you are limited to 10 lots. This has never been the case as through cross-server swaps and temp accounts I KNOW there are many characters with 100s of houses. On Tarquinas the RoqSq PA has at least 100 houses forming a barrier around their rebel bases. At one point they all said the same guys name. I believe these where created during the christmas cd key trial thing and since houses don't disappear even when an account deactivates all they have to do is pay maintenance.


As to the vendors, my PA has 20 or so in our Mall, plus I and many other crafters run 3-4 in our various houses. I also know many people with those first level vendor machines that use them for item storage in their houses. Plus of course the empty vendors from players that have deactivated. Took us 4 months for a CSR to come remove one from a deactivated member.
