Hello everyone,

I've built a program specifically designed to help bridge the gap between what tools Merchant's could use and what we actually have. The program is called the 'Merchant's Buddy' and it builds customer lists, metrics and helps split out money if you have a business partner. So far so good. I'm looking for bug reports, feature requests, and anything you can throw at me.

The features are:

  • Generates an easily-readable data listing of all of the e-mails saved through SWG via the /mailsave command.

  • Based on the e-mails, generates semi-colon separated customer lists, divided into vendor and bazaarcustomers for quick and easy 'thank you' mailing lists.

  • Generates metrics on how many items were sold, the grand total of credits earned, and break-downs ofhow many items each vendor sold and how many credits each vendor earned.

  • Data generated can be saved into comma-delimited or tab-delimited files, and then re-loaded at any time.

  • Optional ability to define, through text files, as many partner splits as needed, based upon vendors.

Today, I've put up a general bug-fix release as well as given it a proper installation, icons and little goodies. I also made the program open up at just a little larger size.

You can download it here. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or wishes, please give me a holler.

I downloaded v0.1 and thought it had plenty of potential, I now see you have fixed the CSV bug, I will download 0.2 now.

One feature that would be useful is to output in a field the location of the bazaar/vendor. That way you can monitor which seller is generating most sales.

Sorry, just to clarify, the Bazaar on different planets. At the moment it just says Bazaar, it would be nice if it said Bazaar (Corellia) or Bazaar (Dantooine), or the planet in a separate field.

I'll see about adding that feature, warren.

Mitsy - /mailsave outputs all of your e-mail to a directory under your Star Wars Galaxies install, allowing you to view them offline, or, in this case, process them.

Thanks for considering that feature, but I should mention that my interest is passive, but encouraging, observation in what you have created. I use Excel to do the same thing (using VBA), but feeding into my own custom sales spreadsheet. But it was written quick and very dirty, and doesn't have an application outside my own use - I wasn't so thoughtful as to create an application others could benefit from.

One other thing I have noticed that I would consider is to save a default username/server/character in a config file. I thinkto select three drop down boxes each time can get a little tiresome.

A button to delete the "/mailsave" emailsfrom the SWGfolder would be nice, if people batch process the data into CSVs for import elsewhere they wouldn't want an ever growing repeating list of sales, but rather a cut of the data from the last import.

Consolidation of data would also be a good feature. So if "KewlDude Pantwetter" buys three 3 weapon powerups on thesame day on the same vendorat the same price that would be reflected in the output with a sales volume of 3, rather than as a list of three items.

I'm sure others will have lots more ideas. I congratulate you, I just hope you know what you have let yourself in for by starting this.

I hadn't even really thought to include the location of any of the sales, primarily because vendor sales have such crappy location texts. They tell you that the item was sold on Corellia, in Corellia, for instance. I never thought to look up what it says when you're doing a Bazaar buy because of that very reason. I figured it was just the same.

However, after reading your suggestion, I went and looked one up and saw that it actually gives valid information, such as the city that it was sold in *gasp*. So, I'll be adding that just because it's useful information to have.

The problem with a config file that fixes the drop-down is that there are event handlers within the drop-downs that fill them up as you go along based on what directories you have available. It's an easy-breazy quick way to get it rather than having to browse to it and do a bunch of clicking, particularly for people who might not know exactly where it's stored. However, I think I've come up with a solution, maybe a 'go to last' button that you can click that will go to whichever directory you suggested last.

...and, speaking of the 'go to last' button, I am perfectly intent on adding a button that lets you delete your mail files, or maybe back them up in a storage area somewhere else by their dates. Hmm. The possibilities are endless. I just wanted to get some bug fixes out of the way and train myself to do better error-checking than what I did with the first run-through.

With what Doc suggested (adding in the ability to also track what you've purchased), I'm trying to think of a way to accumulate data, which goes into what you're talking about with multiple sales. Ultimately, I want to give the user the option to continually save to an ever-growing flat-file (or maybe even a database) that they can load in whenever they like to see the continuous spread.

So say Leetdewd buys three power-ups during one date-spread visit, but you want to see if Leetdewd continues to come back to buy power-ups (until he gets bored and quits his character because he's not Leet enough, that is). You could load up the full dataset, and then get a listing of all the people who bought, say, three or more items on different dates. Scroll down to Leetdewd's name and then double-click it. A new pop-up window opens up detailing each item, date and location that Leetdewd has purchased from you. Even more ambitious goals could be to create a mailing list of all customers who, within the past month, have purchased items from you on more than one occasion.

I also want to be able to save to actual spread sheets, and possibly HTML pages for merchants who might want to put up a web page that their partners could hit displaying the things that they sold in their name over the course of the day, and so on and so forth.

It's all a learning experience, and I've a feeling the people who could most appreciate the work gone into it have already built their own scripts, but I hope it'll get some widespread usage as time goes on.

I just started using this and I love it. it still missing some features I would like to see.

1) Refresh button

I copy my mail into a central folder since i have multiple accounts and hate abing to clear and renavigate to get the sales that just ent in.

2) Date filter

I storing monlthy sales in one folder and daily in another to get the totals I want . Would be great to be able to see daily sales, weekly, monthly and yearly.

3) Location of sale.

You said you are adding this.

4) Statistics on item sales

5) Auto Asscoscation of a vendor name with an account.

6)Data export into a comma delimted file

Great work so far very easy to use and useful.

Thanks for your hard work.

After using this one a little and gathering feedback, I'm in the process of re-building the entire utility to be a bit more user-friendly as well as to have a lot more information and the ability to handle archives.

Archives:

Configuration of the utility will have an option for Year/Month archives. The archive folder will be able to be set by the individual, or it will go to a default archive folder. You can then look at whatever is in your SWG mail folder, and push it to your archive when you want to by the push of a button, or look at your archives to get a better grasp:

Configuration:

You'll be able to configure the utility to keep your last-used SWG folder as the default folder that will open when the program opens. This will mean, typically, if you have one account that you're dealing with, you will only need to set that account once.

Enhanced Data:

With archives comes the ability to monitor how many things particular cusotmers have purchased from you and what, buld customer lists for your most loyal customers, display sales on certain days, and so on. The only tricky part of this is that the date string that SWG outputs to mail files is odd. I'm not sure what it's based on, so the only date i can go on is when you saved the mails to your disk.

Save Files:

Currently, you can save to CSV (comma-delimited) or TXT (tab-delimited) files. I'm working in the ability to have HTML files and pure excel spreadsheets as well. Looking into also adding XML files, and possibly a function that will allow you to FTP an HTML file up to a website that you might function.

Partner Files:

Enhancing flexibility of partner files to allow regex searching based upon particular item names, strings, etc...

My Purchases:

Ability to look at what you've purchased as well as what you've sold.

I'm also still looking for ideas on enhanced functionality for the tool, so if you have some, keep them coming.

Great tool, thank you

A few suggestions:

1.) Data View

Make an option (via right click) to delete an email. I have several vendor mails that I don't want to track because I deleted the vendor. Finding these mails manually is a pain.

2.) More Statistics

- overall average sales per day (number of items and total credits)

- show percentage (vendors compared to overall sales) so you can see more easily which vendors sell good

3.) Graphical charts

Ooooo.. This is just what I was waiting for.

Now I don't know if I should wait till you get the new build out or grab it now. LOL.

Thank you for doing what I was not able to do! Much appreciated.

And one feature I would love to see is the ability to output files to a html (or even better php) format so you can have statistics available on a personal site for those of us that do have a few of our vendors 'rented out' to others.

Yup, that's one of the things I'm working on in the new version. I don't know any php, though, so it'll have to be straight HTML until I can get a handle on PHP.

Just got filtering to work today, and configuration saves, so it's coming along rather nicely. Gotta finish up all of the different save options, and make sure we can load all of those save options as well, put in the utility to write partner files, and the utilities that handle additional statistics and eventually archive the e-mails.

Phew, lot of work, but I'm learning a lot of c#.

I'll also look into the right-click delete functionality.
