If a merchant places a Merchant Tent, can that merchant then transfer the Tent to another non-merchant player? And if yes, would that be an exploit?

No. You cannot transfer it unless the other player also has Effiency IV.

Gotcha, thanx.

Btw, what happens if somebody places the Tent, and then surrenders Efficiency IV? Will the tent stay, or poof?

There is almost no place in the game where something vanishes upon a skill point surrender. Nothing happens. The best suggestion we've had to prevent non merchants from ending up with these tents is to put a punatively high maintenance charge on it if you drop Effiency IV.

doc please this is the silliest of issues to deal with...

Its a TENT for crying outloud...it isnt really giving anyone a HUGE advantage...

cant we focus on getting new useful skills instead of trying to take stuff away from everyone...

A tent shounldnt even be a skill in the first place IMO.

but i know some here would freak at the thought....OMG can you imagine how it would destroy the game if everyone could have a TENT...it would be the end of merchants

i am finding many of the current merchant issues just petty..

say we take away peoples tents and vendors and signs...how will that improve the game for me in any way

Nauf, a tent isn't a skill. It's a certification.

That's like being a pistoleer, dropping pistoleer and still being certed with DX-2's.

And, in case you missed it, Doc HAS been focusing on other issues as well. He's been asking for new skills and tools for sales, orginazation and tracking since he's been correspondent. And Marqui did the same.

Lets talk about this. Why is it important that merchants have the tents?

It is important because the point of the tent was to give merchants a unique structure that indicated from a distance that a merchant owned the strcuture and there is in all probability a vendor inside selling merchandise. If I'm wandering through the game and I see one I am inclined to stop and take a peek at what is inside. If everyone owned a tent it would just be a funny house and the point is lost.

Is it the end of the game? No..but why put content in for merchants and then make it so everyone can have it and ruin the entire point of the content? It doesn't make any sense. That is why the tent should be only for merchants.

House signs where the first attempt at providing this content but it is too easy to get your house sign changed and it now means nothing. No one even considers that a sign that a merchant owns the structure any more.

It isn't my #1 priority and if it isn't changed the profession will go on..but it is such an easy thing to fix and it is just that it be fixed that I see no harm in making the request. If TH came to me tomorrow and said I'll give you consignment sales or merchant tent revocation which ..I'll take consignment sales in half a heartbeat and so will the majority of the merchants here. It isn't about one or the other.

I don't know how anyone who is not a merchant can justify getting a "merchant tent" without the skills to get one and I don't think it is fair to give up the skills after you get it and keep it. The justifications for that all sound fairly self serving to me and annoy people who are working hard and sacrificing other skills to be a merchant.

If Merchant Tents are so irrelevant why does any one who isn't a merchant care that they can't have one? Why are merchants who have them worried about losing them if they give up their Effiency skills? They like the tent. Well the tent is in Eff IV for a reason. to make having Eff IV appealing to the people who want a tent.

Hey, look, I agree, I think they should have given us better, but it's what we got, and I'd like to keep it mine without giving it away with the rest of my skills.

You would have to ask the devs why they chose level IV rather that II or why they put it in Effiency instead of Advertising where it belongs.

I suspect the reasoning is this: By Effiency IV you have someone who is fairly well commited to the Merchant Profession and is likely to be serious about having a vendor and doing business. You are less likely to have someone who is just screwing around with the merchant profesion.

That is just a guess. It isn't there only to justify the skill box but when you get new content you put it not in the skill box everyone already takes but in the ones not everyone takes. It makes it something to attain not just something you get without trying very hard. And by trying hard I don't just mean waiting the period of time it takes to get those skill boxes in merchant I mean working to keep your merchant skills and building a business.

Doc, I agree, and I'm sure you'll agree that where they made their blunder was by making all of our skills free.
