Thread: I give up...There must be a reason they won't give us a RELIST BUTTON

I gave up yesterday. I had six hundred items sent to the stockroom - and I just can't bear to take the time to even care about relisting.

I honestly came to a realization - they won't give us a relist button because this is the only "content" merchant has. A time sink - a carpel tunnel inducing, patience pushing, profession-repelling time sink.

I can't come up with a single other reason. I mean, who the heck wants to spend HOURS trying to remember what everything was priced at, or making up new prices - or having to do this for each and every tiny little item for sale.

You have two options - relist everything at once, and have to spend a huge amount of time at once to mind-numbbingly do it, or if you spread it out you end up being tethered to the terminals every day. It's a no-win situation.

So, for the first time since I've been playing SWG, I am totally giving up. I can't even bear to relist the items at 1cr each just to get rid of them - I simply refuse to sit and click and click and give myself a headache.

I can't help but think it's intentional - this is meant to be our "content".

Actually I doubt it is intentional. It is most likely a combination of just not enough motivation to make it a priority to fix (doesn't affect enough people directly..like say search features which affect the general population) and the fact that most designers probably haven't played merchant to the level that many of us have played. I have no doubt that some of them have played merchant or even enjoy doing it but there is a big difference between someone who has a few vendors and a merchant who has 1000's of items in inventory at all times.

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?

Well, Doc, it's nice of you to stick up for them, but I just don't buy it.

They had time to nerf us several times, including the "vendor revamp" (needed or not, it indeed was a nerf).

People have been begging for a restock button since beta. I wonder how many merchants wouldn't have quit if they'd taken the time to do so. Look at the dearth of posts in this forum for the past few months - merchant is gasping it's last breath.

Like the others that have posted, I too respec'd away the majority of my merchant skills. I'm sure you may disagree, but Master Merchant is now an uttlerly huge waste of skill points. Advertising is a moot point with the Global Vendor Search, Efficency is useless once you've placed your tent (20% off the tiny maintainance fees doesn't do it for me), and hiring is nothing more than cosmetics which isn't worth 14 skill points.

There is no merchant "content", and I still honestly believe the reason we haven't gotten something as simple as a relist button is because they thought a time-sink was better than nothing at all. With the amount of active merchants, it seems they were wrong.

They have done everything they can to make our profession usless; it would be nice to at least get a /nod and drop the charade of content with the lack of a relist button. Have they ever spoken about it? How many dozens and dozens (and likely hundreds) of threads has this request appeared in? I'd dare say proportionately we've asked about it as much as Smugglers have their revamp, if you took a player : post ratio.

There is no excuse two years into live play for not having a relist button, unless it's intentional. Either way, it's sad that so many people have left the profession when one tiny thing could have helped. However, that may have been the actual intention - it's been clear with Global Vendor Search which requires no skills, and the lack of attention in the area of relisting, that the merchant profession has lost signifigant numbers. Perhaps that is a way to lower the numbers so when they eliminate the profession there will be no one left to complain?

Food for thought.

Just to chime up, I still can't see the reason for a timer on stuff I put in my own vendor!

With the CU, I had to relist around 800 items or so. 30 days later I spent forever just relisting.

And they need to STOP messing with the messages when you sell things!!!!!!!! I hate it as much this time as the last time. I sell some aluminum and see an email that says I sold aluminum for 200000 credits. How much aluminum did I sell? Was it my good stuff at 4cpu (50k stack) or my 100k units of 2cpu grinding stuff? They need to tell me what amount I sold in addition to price. This ticks me off more than the vendor issue.

I've been a merchant since Sept of '03 and for the first time I'm thinking of giving up architecture/merchant. "Bad Devs. BAD!"

You have a remarkable talent for taking one of my criticisms of the devs and suggest I am sticking up for them. I am not. I think they have done a terrible job with the economy and the Merchant profession. I think the chances were there to do much more. Your suggestion that they keep the relist button from us to provide content just don't fit with my understanding of how things work over there. One of my favorite SOETyrant quotes was something to the effect of: never assume malice when negligence is the more likely answer.

If they WERE keeping the relist button from us it wouldn't be because they think restocking vendors is content. It would be because they think that a one click relist makes storage on vendors too easy and they don't have any motivation to expend resources to encourage that. I suspect though that they haven't even thought about it to that level. I suspect it was reviewed and labeled as a low impact (to the player base at large) profession request and it sits on a list somewhere waiting on some developer to add it when they are fixing something that they feel is far more important. I don't agree with their assessment but its far more likely than your scenario.

I miss Tyrant. He was good for us.
If only you could have seen where the Global Search was headed before his departure.

But i guess you can tell us anything... NDA...

It was just in the discussion stages after they pulled the first version but it was headed toward something that would have been good for everyone.

You'd be disappointed most of the time.

That conversation was frustrating and emotional but I agree with Elyssa that I think we were on the verge of coming up with changes that would have made things much better for everyone and it all got ignored when Tyrant departed.
